This is to woogie and one of his posts upward..."would like to hae a IIGS in a IIe case..."
Take a look at MCpricebreakers at ebay... jeff offers in his shop the IIe to IIGS upgrade boards....
he´s got the original one´s from apple with serialno. as collector items as well as several ones
without serialno. ( which are cheaper ) .... the change of the board is no rocketscience....
and those boards have the connectionbase to catch the plugs from the IIe powersupply and the IIe keyboard.
So why not help yourself ? At the end you´ll have that, what you wanted to get...

A iigs in a //e case sounds neat. It looks and feels more "classic apple" too.

Didn't apple put the IIgs board in a //e as an upgrade at one point?

Ranger,

Yes. There was a IIe to IIgs conversion kit that apple sold for a while. It came with motherboard, Top and a few other goodies.
They actually had several up on eBay for sale over the last couple of years. I would have liked to have been able to afford one. Smile

While slightly on the subject of the IIgs, I often wonder why it was shaped differently than the rest of the apple //s. And I've been meaning to ask this for a while, what is the reason for the small lip on the bottom portion of the case that sticks out? Could it be due to the boards inside, and if so, why not expand the rest of the case just a bit to make it flush with the rest of the IIgs.

the length of the case was determined by the length of the mainboard. the top of the case was determined by the size of the IIGS Monitor. So finally there where 3 solutions possible: whole case with size of mainboard, two different sizes and the front straight up but not corresponding with the size of the monitor or last some kind of drawback on the front.
If drawback on the front is straight another way to fix the "power on" light would be neccessary - with the lip the light could stay just on the board. I guesss it was a compromise to keep the light on the board ( other mounting - more cost in production ) and therefor the designers solved the problem with the lip.

Wow! Thanks!

I wouldn't have thought about it like that. Very neat.
