Apple II+ Apple Writer II -- Version Problem

Hey guys,

Have tested multiple images copied to a physical floppy, yet when I boot, I get the following warning and the Apple Writer II program does not start.

"THIS VERSION OF APPLE WRITER IS NOT INTENDED FOR THIS COMPUTER. PLEASE CONTACT YOUR LOCAL APPLE DEALER FOR THE CORRECT VERSION."

Any suggestions?

Apple Writer II is supposed to support both 80 and 40 characters (my Apple II+ only has 40 at the moment and no mouse controller card)

There is no neef dor mouse card at the Apple Writer II.
But there are different versions for II+ and //e.
This results from different handling of the 80 column display and adressing of that displaymemory.

thanks SpeedyG

Any idea where to get the DSK image specific for Apple II+? I tried Asimov but those didn't work.

Either way, I probably should get an 80 card since I had that setup originally when I was young. From what I remember it makes editing much easier.

Which card is best to get? There seems to be all different kinds out there?

I'm partial to Videx because that's what I had in the 3rd grade!

Hello,

I have a II+ and a working (protected) copy of Apple Writer II.

I've run it and it works in 40 col mode. I have a videx clone but Writer II does'nt switch to 80 col. (?) .

I see here that I can Locksmith replicate it in case You can't find one copy anywhere and I can mail one copy.. just let me know.

In fact Apple Writer II consista of 2 disks:
1 so called preboot disk ( that the one that Contains the configuration )
1 so called program disk
and it switches only to 80 col mode if the card is installed correct and configured correct....
I´d recommend Videx or videx clone because that was a standard of that days.

and yes - it must be copied either with Locksmith or with Nibbles Away II
or with Copy II Plus and using disk copy option with use of parameter disk....

The version of AppleWriter that will work on your II Plus comes on a 13-sector disk. That's my disk in the photo. I don't know if I've made a copy of it for Mac GUI Vault or not.

But the point is, I know that it works because I've booted it on my II Plus using the Basics disk.

Sounds like I probably should get an 80 column setup.

Does anyone have a Videx 80 card they would be willing to sell?
