Apple II power supply wiring

Hey guys,

I was going to try getting this 'DIY' Apple II turned on, just to see if it's alive. It came with a European power supply. The wires are all marked with the different voltages. If I understand correctly, there are six: 2 GND, 1 +5V, 1 +12V, 1 -5V, 1 -12V. I have an Apple II power supply here.. Model 699-0133. I figure the two black wires must be GND but am unsure what the other colors are anyone know where I could find something that details those?

Not knowing the condition of this custom mainboard.. is there any risk of fire/blowing stuff up assuming he's labeled the voltages correctly? Or is it more likely nothing's going to happen if there's a problem?

I won't be able to see any video from the unit as it had a custom SCART type video board.. probably 80 column. It has no composite out (although it does have a provision to solder one in). With Apple II, is it straightforward enough to just pick up an 80 col card with composite out and use that? The part that's confusing me is the 'SCART' card was soldered directly to another card that looks like memory, and then that card had an adapter that plugged into what looks like a memory socket on the motherboard. Is something likely going to have to go from that socket somewhere?

Hello falter,

You can find the Apple II PSU pinout here.
I suppose the PSU clone has a straight connector. Mine is labelled like this :

_
| |
|6| +5V
|5| +5V
|4| -12V
|3| -5V
|2| +12V
| |
|1| GND
|_|

And yes, you can badly damage the components with an incorrect voltage (i.e. 12V instead of 5V).

It's worth the $10 for a cheap multi-meter. Double-checking the supply before plugging it into anything is always a good idea. I don't know about Apple supplies, but I know Atari and C-64 supplies are faltering with age now, and I no longer trust any new finds without giving them a check-up before attaching them to a computer.
