Apple IIGS boot dificulties

I am a Apple II nube.
I having some issues with booting with upgrades installed into my IIGS ROM3 machine. It work perfectly in stock configuration.
First is a memory upgrade card. It is Harris Labs GS Sauce memory card. It has 4 simm installed. If I remember each is 1mb(4bm total). The dip switched are all in the down position. I installed it as a replacement for the 1mb original apple card, in the slot on the right towards the front. When I boot with no other cards installed,I get this error about 1/2 through to boot loading from 3.5 floppy of GOS 6.01. See pic 1
I also have a CF MicroDrive Hard Drive card. If I have the original 1mb card installed and I install this card into the far right rear slot(7 ??), I get the error shown in pic 2 when I power up. When purchased it from UltimateApple dotcom, I though it was just plug and play, as DOS and GOS were preinstalled (along with a lot of other stuff) and ready to go.
If you need more info to help, please ask
I'm an expert Atari guy wanting to learn about Apples, but need some hand holding.
Thanks

Re: Apple IIGS boot dificulties

The manual for your memory card is probably this one ?
ftp://ftp.apple.asimov.net/pub/apple_II/documentation/hardware/storage/memory/Harris%20Laboratories%20GS%20Sauce%20Model%204002%20Manual.pdf
It looks like for 4 x 1MB ram your dips should be up/up/down/up but I'm just skimming it so verify for yourself

Re: Apple IIGS boot difficulties

Thanks,
I moved the dips to that position shown on that PDF and got a bit further on the GOS load, but only one time. The progress bar went all the way to the right and the machine froze. After a reboot, I get the same error as before. Just for kicks I switch around the SIMMs and no difference.

Can you test the memory with a program like MegaMemoryTester ?

I would like to try that memory tester but I have to also get the CF Micro Drive working to get that program off the internet and into the GS
Any thoughts on getting that to work.
Thanks!!

Can't you use ADTPro ? It just requires a disk drive.

Re: Apple IIGS boot dificulties

Success!!
I got the MicroDrive to boot. I had to clean the edge connector for the card and slot. I did the same for the meme card and simms.
Now I can run the mem tests.
From running the tests I can see that for the 4mb mem card, the default dips switched all in teh down position results in the IIGS seeing 4mb.
But WOW do I have a lot of mem errors!!!!
I need some help interpreting the errors
(my work computer will not let me attach any pics, I'll but them in my next post)
