Apple III Apple II

Hi, recently I've become an owner of some apple computers. I guess I have also all necessary cables and monitors for them. I wanted to ask if there are some problems with running them after a few years, and if so what should I do to avoid them.

Re: Apple III Apple II

Yes, there are a couple of things to consider.

The most common components to fail on Apple II computers are the capacitors in the Power Supply.

These can typically be replaced pretty easily, you just have to be sure to allow the capacitors to drain away any lingering charge if you had it plugged in recently.

Another common item is that the keys on the keyboards don't always work 100% - as they get "sticky" with age. You can usually correct this by squirting a little bit of Isopropyl Alcohol down the key stem and pressing the key repeatedly.

Last item is to turn off the unit, open the case, touch the metal of the power supply (to drain off any static charge you might have) and then carefully press down on each and every chip to ensure they are fully seated in the motherboard. (This was a REAL problem with the Apple III's btw)

Hope this is helpful, and good luck with your new computers!

Jennifer
