Hello,
I have a Mac IIci that I want to connect to home ethernet network. I searched around though found mostly dead links and articles for OS 8.
I need a basic internet connection for downloading some software and local network access to move files to a windows machine.
For internet, I'd suggest picking up a cheap multi-port router rather than bothering with connection sharing. Much less fuss.
For transferring files to and from Windows, it's a bit trickier. If you're running Windows 7, IIRC most of the Windows applications that supported Appletalk aren't compatible, or cost lots. However, Win7 does have a built-in ftp server capability, and with Fetch or Anarchie on the Macintosh, you should be able to ftp to the PC.
How large are the files? Mac System 7.1 and higher should be able to read/write a DOS formatted floppy. If the files are smaller than 1.2MB, you can sneaker-net them from one machine to the other.
Some of the files and data will not fit on a floppy. If I could find a usb to scsi interface I could use a hard drive.
I currently have a router to act as a gateway to the internet. I am looking for the hardware and software to join the network for basic file transfer.
