Elite expansion card

Hello

I am currently digging through my old Apple stuff. I also got some items from other users when they left the 8-bit-Apple playground.

One card, I never personally used is the one in the picture attached.

Can someone give a hint what it is used for and whether it needs a special software, please?

My web-searches only came back with the game "elite" and the rana-drives and I think, they are unrelated.

Thanks for any help

Re: Elite expansion card

Looks like an old one-button disk (program) "software backup" (crack) card for the Apple IIe.
Yes, you will need software for it to make it work fully, however when the card is in-place, it will decipher the (generated) code that is saved to the disk.
I've been looking for one of these for a while. Let me know if you are willing to part with it. PM me if so.

Decipher the generated code? What code generated by what?

Re: Elite expansion card

This card basically captures program code loaded into memory of an Apple IIe and saves it (compressed) to disk.
It was meant to backup copy-protected games and programs. (it also deciphers the compressed code generated by the card)
Similar to a WildCard. Code compression was not advanced.

Interesting

I was aware of the wildcard at the time, but did not know alternative products from other companies.

I am more a keeper than a seller, so I will see, whether I can find the software that came with it.

Thanks for your comments

Re: Elite expansion card

It has an onboard ROM with firmware so the card might now need any software at all. Just type PR#n and see what happens.

Hi to All,

This card actually is a Wildcard Plus.
Manual, disk and pictures are here.

Re: Elite expansion card

You made my day.

Thank you very much. I hope, I can give back some info to this forum in the future. As mentioned, I am currently "doing a kind of archeological expedition into my own past" by opening many stored boxes. There will be questions, but maybe I can also contribute...
