Erphi AFDC2 Controller EPROM and Handling+TEAC55F mods

repeating here partially text from current pm's due to the fact
that several parts may be of interest to several AF Members:

Hello speedyG,
I tried to load the epromfile of the erphi AFDC2 Diskdrive controller from your site.
It seems that the file is damaged - sad....
In the Binary i can view at the beginning only repeatingly 0x04 0x06.
Could you please check that ?
I wanted to update my version 6/6 because i use the controller with 3 Teac F55 drives which i can't use at the moment.
sincerely
gew

Hallo gew,
first thanks for the feedback...
it seems that Google still offers rather outdated links from 8 years ago....
In the meantime the Applebox moved 2 times from one provider to other provider
and resulting from reorganisation with renaming pages 2 years ago.
the correct link to the current page is:
http://www.appleii-box.de/H089_AppleIIAFDC2.htm
The new pages can be verified easily by thw fact that the new pges all start with a alphabetic/numeric code
...../X00_name of the page.htm
the renaming got needed because i had to sort out double pages and detect pages without link.
The corrct links to the associated files are each time at the bottom end of the pages
- if there are related files avilable for download.
The name of the related file is now ending with .ROM - it is still a 2 KB binary file
and if needed you may instead rename it at the ending instead to .BIN ( that is needed
by some programmers....)

Hallo Speedy,
Thanks for the support
with the new eprom I'm able to Boot DOS 3.3 and have access to both drives
but i cant format 640 Kb.
Disks with ProDOS i get the message:" unable to load ProDOS"
Seems the i must reread the Manual
sincerely
gew

The manual is on that page
you should read the info's about EFID and EFORMAT beginning at page 17....
additionally the first drive should be equipped with a switch to select between 40tracks and 80 tracks
(set first drive at beginning to 40 tracks and second driveto 80 tracks and
then format with eformat at the second drive 80 tracks/160 tracks and then
copy the files with EFID - and keep sure that switches at the controller are set correct.
Don't forget to check the terminationresistorarray at drive 2 with array of 8x330 ohm resistors.

Update:
Hallo Speedy,
thanks for your hints. After rereading the manual i made significant progress.
I use at the moment a Apple II DISK II as drive 1.
A Teac 55F is used as drive 2.
I can boot from the fresh created Disk. I i try to create a new disk with
EFORMAT it proposes as volumename Vol15 which would be default to 640 Kb.
But i get with HD diskettes an error 5 and with DD Disks a message "drive to slow".
That is independant if the FAST switch is in on or off position.
i will repeat some experiments in the weekend.
BTW: The Controller was sold with a Floppycable without twisting
so the jumpers at the drives have been set to DS0 and DS1.

Hello gew,
if the controller issues the message "Drive to slow"then of course the speed
od the mentioned drive must get adjusted... see:
http://www.appleii-box.de/H084_1_AppleIIDiskService1.htm
unfortunattly that page does not display pictures of the Teac55F
the adjustmnt must be performed in 35track mode.
i will add pictures in the next weekend ( allthough i suffer from health )
In the TEAC55F of course you may only use DD Disks and never HD diskettes!
The FAST switch is related to the head stepping speed:
for a TEAC55F it must be set to ON position and with Apple DISK II it must be set to OFF.
35 pol cable : the drive ID is dependent to the kind of cable ( twisted or straight )
an the used Connector ( end of cable or mid-position )
I must add a picture to the AFDC2 page to explain the Jumper settings at the drive.

Hello SpeedyG,
thanks again for the support.
with the Trimmer R1 on the PCB of the TEAC55F i have been enabled
tp adjust the speed of the drive unfortunatly i don't have a frequency counter
to adjust it precise, therfor i was foced to detect by "try and error"
Finally i'm able to boot from a disk created in drive 2.
During research i discovered the following files:
Multi-Disk fur erphi-Controller AFDC2 - Side A - 9-84 (German).dsk
Multi-Disk fur erphi-Controller AFDC2 - Side B - 9-84 (German).dsk
Multi-Disk fur erphi-Controller AFDC2-3 - Side A - 1-2-86 (German).dsk
Multi-Disk fur erphi-Controller AFDC2-3 - Side B - 1-2-86 (German).dsk
FD55F_Specification.pdf
Teac FD-55 Maintenance.pdf
Reading the matenance file i detected R1.

related to the speedadjust you should reread my page about that in the DISKII topics.
I've given that link previously. to perform the adjustment the drive should be in 35 track mode.
mabe its usefull to wait short time till i updated my AFDC2 page by adding the 'TEAC 55F page.
sincerely
