Graphics resolution issue?

Hi to all,

The game Maniac Mansion was mentioned in a retro conversation so I created the two disks for my IIe.

It boots ok (after a while?) but the opening page is not displaying correctly. The pixels seem very oversized making the screen illegible and the top line text is 'chunky' and the letters blend together.

Are there issues relating to different graphics ROMS or any other hardware in the IIe.

I remember the early PC games took a lot of running to to Graphics card problems.

Thanks Chaps,

Richard

Hi Richard,

IIRC, Maniac Mansion is a double hi-res game.
You have to have 128 Ko of RAM in order to play it.

Hi Mate,

The problem is it is a 128k machine, assumimg that it is made up of 64k on the main board and 64k on the 80 column card?

The other problem is that my other machine (which is a //e as opposed to a ][e) seems to get the resolution right but the image is like looking through a partially opened vertical blind and no colour?

Did I read somewhere that PAL Apples do not output composite colour and need a modulator?

Richard,

I've not mentioned that only the Rev B motherboards are capable of using double hires.
And not all 80 column cards come with 64 Ko. The 820-0066A AIIE 80COL card is using 1 Ko to produce 80 column. There is a big SY2158 chip on it (here is a picture).

And yes, the PAL Apples doesn't produce colors through the composite video output.
That's why I'm using NTSC Apple Wink
