GS+Z80+CFFA question

Hi folks,
one more stupid question, which I seem to be unable to work out for myself.

I am using the following setup:
IIgs ROM 03
CFFA 3000 in #7
Disk 3.5 and Disk 5.4 (#5 und #6, respectively).

I want to add a Z-80-Card to the system. However, my card seems to look for a CP/M disk in #6 - which I previously used as a virtual Disk II drive with my CFFA. Now that I have added the two disk drives, this option is no longer available - I need the #6 for the "real" 5.25 drive.
Any suggestions?
Ah, by the way: the Z80 is in #2, and I need #1 for the printer ...

Thanks
Carsten

Re: GS+Z80+CFFA question

Hello Carsten,

though at the IIGS the slot 4 is in general reserved for internal use as mouseport,
the recommended slot for the Z80 will also be slot 4.

In general most software at CPM won´t be able to use the mouse.
So it´s recommended to leave the Z80 Card in the slot 4 and switch by options panel menu
between starting up CPM without mouse by setting option to:
"your card" and if switching away from CPM to other operation system just deactivating the Z80 card
in options panel by switching back to "mouse card" internal option.

My experience was: that using the CFFA3000 with CPM is fairly without sense....
and therefor it was more usefull to use diskdrives at CPM. The only variation
for use of harddisk with CPM was by use with SCSI - because only SCSI drivers are availiable
at most CPM systems, while IDE Drivers haven´t been availiable in most CPM-systems.

Re: GS+Z80+CFFA question

Hi speedyG,
Thanks for the quick reply.
The thing is, I do want to use CP/M software via the CFFA.
You are right about the mouse, however, the CFFA only allows virtual Disk IIs in slots 4 to 7.
As the 5.25 drive has to be assigned to #6 and the 3.5 to the smartport in #5, that rather leaves me without alternatives?
Or would it be possible to set the CFFA to #2, Z-80 to #4, thus assigning the virtual drives to #7?
Regards,
Carsten

Re: GS+Z80+CFFA question

Hello Carsten,
well
CFFA at least works also in the slot 2.
I haven´t tried the virtual drive from slot 7 yet.

But if you don´t want to use the real drive - but the virtual drive instead,
why not switching the real drives off in the option panel ?

I quess that are questions to be answered by Rich Dreher.
