IIgs CPU selection

I have a IIgs ROM 01 that I would like to use, but it is missing a CPU. I found something that may be compatible at mouser. Any reason why this wouldn't work? Thanks!!

Kev,

That chip should work just fine.

Any other opinions out there?

Re: IIgs CPU selection

Awesome, thanks for that. Purchased and will install when it arrives. However, I may have another problem...

I found an alternate ROM 01 which works fine (but has a very serious dark yellow sunburn :). I popped out its CPU and installed it on my ROM 01 board, and all I got was trouble! First boot looked fine, but computer froze after about a minute. Power cycling multiple times resulted only in a lo-res green graphics checkered display with no disk activity. I pulled the CPU, re-installed it in the original box and it was perfectly fine. I did check the CPU pin configuration, so I know it wasn't in backwards. Hmm..

I know that my original ROM 01 board is/was good, because I've used it previously with an acceleration card for a year. So something tells me that a new mouser processor may not fix my situation.

I suppose the easiest thing to do is swap cases, but I admit that I am intrigued why the simple CPU swap didn't work.

Perhaps something was damaged when the acceleration card was removed? Maybe there is some "setting" somewhere that I need to adjust when changing from an acceleration card to normal CPU? I have never observed the green, lo-res checker display immediately after powering on, so I'm not sure what to make of it yet. Obviously, I've got some research to do and I'll get to that, but any pointers in the right direction would be great!! -k
