Imagewriter ribbons

I hope I'm posting in the right forum, I wasn't quite sure where to put this. Anyway I'm looking for a set of single-color Imagewriter ribbons. Not the four-stripe CMYK ribbon, the ones I'm referring to were identical to the black ribbon except in blue, green, gold, etc. If I recall correctly six colors were available in total, but I could easily be off in either direction. Does anybody know where to find these? When I try to search for them online I just get swamped with results for the much more common black and CMYK versions.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Imagewriter ribbons

This is the first time I am hearing of this type of ribbon and I have been using an Imagewriter II for over 20 years.

Re: Imagewriter ribbons

Maybe they were less common than I thought. Some years ago my folks had an Imagewriter one in our home office and they had a set of these ribbons, I always assumed they were an Apple product but now I'm not so sure as I can't find anything of them on Apple's website. (And they have documentation going WAY back.) Maybe they were an aftermarket item. I did find a website selling them some time ago but I forgot to order a set and now can't find the site again. Aargh.

One more thing, I believe these were designed for the Imagewriter one (which didn't support the multistripe ribbon), though they were of course compatible with the Imagewriter II which took the same black ribbon. Not sure if this is useful but I just thought I'd mention.

I had some of these when they came from the schools. Mainly red and green solid colors. Not sure where they got them from.

It sounds, from the colors that you are describing, that that ribbon came from a Plotter instead of a printer. Could that be the case?

No, they were ribbons for the image writter. Not plotter ink of any kind. I still may have them in a plastic baggy. But they have to be dried out by now.

They had ribbons that would transfer ink wax to a sheet of paper that you would take an iron and melt it to a t-shirt.

Re: Imagewriter ribbons

I would think they might have been listed in some of the older Incider and A+ magazines. But they may no longer make them do to low demand. Places may no longer exist.

Re: Imagewriter ribbons

AFAIK they aren't currently manufactured, I'm just wondering where they might be found as old stock. Or if anybody knows how to search for them effectively–when I tried Google I couldn't figure out how to find these amongst 1000's of results for the newer type ribbons, and Ebay didn't appear to have any listed though I'll keep my eyes peeled.

These were for printing on paper but T-shirt transfer ribbons sound interesting, I didn't know these existed. If you have any that you plan to sell (either type) would you let me know? I can probably reink them if need be.

Which brings to mind another point–such ribbons can probably be made using the casing from a worn-out black ribbon and refilling it with the same type ribbon inked with the chosen color. The only real problem is matching the original colors! Kind of a chicken-or-the-egg scenario, because if I had a set to base the colors off of I wouldn't need to make them. Just an idea though.

And thanks for all the help!

Re: Imagewriter ribbons

Hi,
I can not look them at the moment. Not sure where they are. But if I find them I will send you a PM. So check back. A lot of people lose interest with in a short time.

On the thermal transfer ribbons. The all black on white Tshirts worked the nicest. You needed to put wax paper on the inside so the wax would not bleed thur to the back side. A little trial and error will be needed to get it right.

I have to find and get out to quite a few Apple 2 people items. But life's everyday problems seem to be slowing me down more each day.

Has anyone heard from "Disk II" or can the moderators poke him. If that is the correct term.
