Can anyone tell me if it is possible to do serial port file transfers between kegs and another computer, and if so, how to set it up?

Thanks

Re: kegs and serial file transfer

A group of us have been working on better serial port behaviors on an offshoot of KEGS called GSport: http://gsport.sourceforge.net
It stands a (much) better chance of doing what you want, and other solutions such as AppleWin may stand an even better chance as well. What can you tell us about what you want to accomplish?

Re: kegs and serial file transfer

At the moment, I am relearning how to move files to and from my GS. I think I should be able to move an image from the GS to my desktop using a null modem. In the future, I'd like to be able to use an emulator to directly download files using something like Contiki or Marinetti.

I have tried to compile GSPort once, but it failed. I am looking into that.

Re: kegs and serial file transfer

Ah, ok. I personally specialize in moving whole disk images at once (as opposed to moving individual files) so I'm not the right person to answer you about that. FTP-style transfer is a good job for Marinetti, and it works with GSport as well (both a ready-made version of the emulator as well as a disk image of Marinetti and Spectrum are available for download... https://sourceforge.net/projects/gsport/files/Emulator%20Software%20Images/ ). So unless you're on Linux, you can just use the pre-built Mac or Windows distribution.

But if I ever want to move a single file or group of files, I copy them to a RAM disk and transfer that using ADTPro. Then I can manipulate the disk image, files, etc. using tools like CiderPress or AppleCommander on the host computer.

Re: kegs and serial file transfer

I am using Opensuse 13.2.

Another thing I'd like to be able to do is access a TNC (radio modem) using the emulator. That would involve having he emulator being able to use a serial port, the go through a serial <-> USB adapter and into the TNC. That would allow me to do packet radio through the emulator. IIRC there is a compiled version of GSPort that runs on the Rasberry Pi, but I haven't gotten a Pi yet. Maybe this will motivate me.

Thanks.
