Re: THIS is Laughable!

I still see that bocaraton-2013's //e is still there, listed at $2800. But the price is now trending downward from (I think) $5000, was it??

$2500 to go! And I'm being generous because it has a white keyboard and appears to be clean. Though I rarely buy any vintage computer without having seen inside.

Now for a change.

This is definitely Not Laughable:

Notice the 5.25 inch Disk Slots.

Nice.

Keatah,

I'm not that flunky, but it does have an extremely low serial number, which is nice. To bad the original keyboard has been removed, I'm sure the rest is not original also.

Some flunkies are already bidding on it without seeing inside. I can't believe it!! I wrote him and asked if he would post some pics from the inside. We will see.

Already $112.00 bid. Yikes!

It should have a raised power light. Did any of the very early Apple II Bell and Howell's have revision 3 motherboards? I know it should have at least a revision 4.

Well, he put some additional pics up there. We now know the Mobo is not original since it has an 1982 date on it. This one is just like mine. The only thing original on mine is the case and keyboard. We will see how high this one goes.

No.
I'm afraid I missed that one.

Hey! I wonder if the person who bought that Lisa
is the person selling this cover?

Steven, looking at it more closely its possible. I doubt that there are two many of them left. If so, good score for him. Seriously, when I saw it again, it hurt even worse considering the price increase. ha ha. Good thing, I have to time to buy it now, bad thing, not enough money.

He writes that the higher priced one is including the drive and the monitor.

So it is not "exactly the same"

apple7159,

That's Wayne Bibbens

He has one of the largest Apple II
collections in the world.

He's on the "Welcome to Macintosh" DVD
and is interviewed several times.

Some of the other folks here probably know him.
I have talked with him via email about
the pricing on some of his units.

Steven,

I did not know that. I have emailed him also. He must have a large collection. He told me that he has 8 Apple II Bell and Howell's. ha ha. I thought it was strange to list it two times. I should have actually read the listing before commenting here.

No.
You are correct according to the photographs.
Both units shown have the exact same Serial Number.
I emailed Wayne to let him know.

Re: THIS is Laughable!

This is the answer I received from Wayne:

Quote:

Hi Steven… with some of our computers, we'll list just the computer and then create another listing that includes the computer with a drive(s), monitor, etc. We found that some only want the computer, and some want a decked out system. Even though we have multiple Bell & Howell units, we just haven't had only enough time to prepare one for eBay. This has been working well for us for some time….almost doubles the potential buyers I suppose.

when there is a sale we notified on our iPhone, then we delete the other sale immediately.

You'll excuse me for saying that somewhere
along the line this isn't very ethical.

Just my opinion.

OK. So what about the case when someone advertises the same item on craigslist and eBay at the same time?

Re: THIS is Laughable!

That's starting to push it in my books.

But regarding the ebayer listing the 2 different configurations, it's probably just a way to get more exposure.

Kinda like excessive references to Steve Jobs. That's the kinda crap I hate.

It's come down quite a bit. I think it started listing at like $5,000 a year or two ago? Something like that.

Here's a IIc+ from one of my favorite (?) Sellers:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rare-Apple-IIc-Plus-Computer-Steve-Jobs-/162168530531?hash=item25c1ff6663:g:6-cAAOSwbsBXkap1

Hefty chunk of change for this bad boy ain't it?

They and Bocaraton just love to place outlandish
prices on their items.

Re: THIS is Laughable!

According to some of the last few sales of Apple II Bell and Howell's, removing the original keyboard, and maybe putting the computer in the wrong box, significantly improves profit margins. I know you guys mentioned these before, but I wanted to bring them up again. In addition, I'm tired of seeing references saying that only 10,000 were produced. I have seen serial numbers from the Bell and Howell's from the few hundreds to over 35,000. So clearly, there were 30,000+ produced. I have not seen any evidence that they jumped a huge amount of numbers, or started numbering them very late.

I believe the 10,000 figure was quoted for the total units equipped with backpack systems... and as time has passed people have misinterpreted the 10K figure to be for the entire run of B&H Apple II+'s.

Re: THIS is Laughable!

Some dummkopf is selling a color Apple sticker for like $100 + $10 shipping.

These can be found for $5 or $6 sometimes or a set 4-small and 4-large for around $20. Even then that's kinda high.

I remember going through a pallet of Network cards, and Apple was putting several stickers in each box.

And let us not forget the $60 sheet of 16-sector stickers.. Hey! Maybe it's the currency of the future! Maybe it's AppleBucks, and a handful of these will get you a macbook or something.

President Obama called such kind of person a "colorfull guy" which seems to be a kind of
diplomatic term....
we could use in such case the term:
"a Sponge-BoB"
and most users will understand....
LOL

Transwarp,

No; it's not a typo.
And I just sent them an email asking what
they have as proof that this card is a Prototype.

Just because it says "Final ROM" does not make it one.

Steven Smile

UPDATE:

I emailed them again asking for some sort of proof that this SCSI Card is a Prototype
and have received no answer so far.
I am going to try again tomorrow and if they cannot provide any proof
whatsoever I am going to report them to eBay for Deceptive Practices.

UPDATE II:

I have received no response from the Seller of this item.
I sent a new email this morning suggesting that if they had no proof
that this card is a Prototype, they should change the Title and Description
to show that the item is a used/as is SCSI Card.

If I receive no answer, I shall contact eBay.

I tried to report this item to eBay.
The cause: Deceptive Practices

The reporting process is so convoluted
that it is impossible to report!

I guess there's no way to stop these folks from saying
that this card is a Prototype without proof.

$49k are they Serious???

Steven, I don't think at $49K you or anyone would have to worry about it selling...
unless there's someone out there with more money than grey-matter. Maybe that's what
he's hoping for. He turned down a $100 offer, BTW.

Good Sunday to all,

Here are three new ones:

1. An Apple II Plus:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/331973301598?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

2. An Apple IIgs:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/331974901339?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

3. And last, but not least an Original Mac 128:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/272381521672?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

What is interesting about this "Once in a Lifetime" Mac is this line in the Description:

Quote:

"This machine is a very special Macintosh 128k with the signatures of the design team on the inside of the case!"

Now isn't that Amazing?

Re: THIS is Laughable!

Hi Keatah,
i guess you inspected the second picture and have recognized
the difference between "original soldered" pins and those that
have been "resoldered" and i guess you remember that this kind
of connectors have a kind of "lock in mechanic" that won't release
the pressed cable unless you break the lock ?
And i don't even start to speculate about the soldering itself...
Did the guy take precautions to prevent static damage ?
There is a pretty good risk to pay 100 bucks for ruined crap....

A monkey who couldn't get the cable detached from the back panel cutout of the IIe (secured with the hex bolts).

Another thing that annoys me, besides improper handling is MORE improper handling.

I hate cards that are stacked on top of each other - the bottom side of one card scratches and marks the top of the other card. This Liron card is scratched up. Tells me it was thrown around too much.

Greetings All,

I am in Beautiful Pagosa Springs, Colorado.
That is why I've been a bit silent the last week.

My cousin and his wife won an all expenses paid trip to Brisbane, Australia
and I was supposed to be house sitting for the next two weeks.
Well, He had a medical condition at the last minute, and they were unable
to go.
So now, I'm up here in the mountains on vacation and visiting. lol
My cousin seems to be getting better and that's a good thing.
I'm just sitting back and enjoying the peace.

I don't have anything in particular to show everyone right now,
but give me a little time and I'll have some more over the top items to share
with you all. lol
