So the new LEGO Mindstorms EV3 system is out (for about three weeks as of this writing) and looks pretty nice. It has a couple aspects about it that are really great, and a few questionable ones.

I really like the improvement to the open attitude of the company, like posting all the related software for free on their site, making it Linux based, and making it backward compatible with the Mindstorms NXT main control bricks and sensors. (Old bricks can be programmed with the new system). Of course there are also the improvements to the brick itself; enhanced USB port functionality, significantly larger built in memory, a memory expansion slot, faster processor, and the option of WiFI.

I question why they went with BluTooth v.2 when at least version 4 has been available for over a year (cost reasons?). While the memory expansion port is great, I'm not sure how they choose the upper limit for it's capacity.
