Macintosh SE (1MB Dual 800k) Upgrade

I picked up a nearly functional Macintosh SE today. At the very least, I will need to replace the upper 800k drive as it appears to not read disks at all. Long term, I'd like to put in a hard drive and a 1.44Mb Superdrive. Does anyone know where I might find the part number for the Superdrive?

You need to check the SE you have. As the original SE's came with an 800k drive, if you wished to upgrade the drive to an HD 1.4mb drive you also needed to upgrade several of the ROMs in the original SE as well.

There is a website that had good information about this process. It did not occur to me until I was writing this post so I did not look it up. I have the site bookmarked at home but am at work right now. If you don't find the info you need let me know and I will post the appropriate links/info when I get home this evening. (or if I have a chance to search myself later today)

Found the info I mentioned. Here is some good information on performing the upgrade you speak of: The Mac SE Support Pages

Hope that helps.
