New iPod Touch battery

I was wondering if anyone here has had to replace the battery in their Touch. I only have limited experience in soldering and I'm wondering if it is worth bothering with. The battery still carries a good charge but less than what it used to. It is only a first generation model too.

I've had to go into it to replace a bad sleep/wake button so getting inside isn't the problem.

Do you think as a novice solderer that I'm more likely going to damage it than fix it?

I have before. If you have moderate experience soldering on a PCB, than it shouldn't be a problem. Make sure you have a fairly fine solder though. If your connections are any bigger than the original points, you may want to put a small piece of tape on the inside to keep it from shorting.

About the battery, get an OEM one if you can, the others are terrible at holding charges.

Hope that helps!

I'll admit I'm hesitant to really go at it. I might just abandon the idea and possibly invest in an iPad or such. My 'ole 1st gen Touch does tend to lag in a lot of things.
