New member to forum and also a question!

Hi Everyone,

I'm a new member and excited to join the community! I just bought an Apple2e! I have a question though is there an easy way to get the DOS 3.3 disk that the manual references? I would purchase one but cant find it on ebay. What is the standard way for people to get software for their Apple2 PCs? Is it common to burn your own 5.25 disks at home with some sort of 5.25 disk writer? or is this looked down upon because it is like pirating? Just curious about how everyone is doing what they do with their Apple PCs Smile

Also, my keyboard on the Apple2e was damaged during shipping, is there any good vendors that sell replacement Apple2e keyboard parts or full keyboard. I have 4 broken keys and need new switch for them I believe.

thanks everyone and hello!

Hey, welcome to the forum!

The easiest way would be to ask a forum member for one. I'd make you one but my apple II is out of commission at the moment. There is a great little piece of software called ADT Pro (google it), it sends disk images from a PC or Mac to the Apple over audio tape cables (flakey) or serial if you have an SSC, with an ethernet option if you have an Uther Ethernet card. None of the Apple II software is no longer copyrighted to my knowledge and can be found all over the web.

You could ask around here or the vintage computer forum. A fellow had some spare kbs over there a while back.

Hi macWilliam! Great advice and thank you very much. I foubd ADT Pro and it looks exactly like what I needed, I just need the cables as you mentioned. Also, great news about Copyright on the software, I hope it is true too Smile

I will ask about the spare parts on the vintage computer forum as you mentioned!

Cheers!

None of the Apple II software is no longer copyrighted.

(Assuming that you meant "All...is no longer...")

This is not true! Much of it has been graciously released by its copyright holders as freeware, and some to the public domain; but it is not a given that old software is now free for the taking, just because it is very old and no longer sold or supported.

For your keyboard

Hello sotu,

And welcome to the forum !

For your keyboard, one good source for buying key switches is eBay US.
For example, this auction is a good start (you can ask the seller, John, if you need more key switches).

Thanks, I stand corrected Smile I don't know much about it, but I would assume the large Apple archives would fall into those categories? (Such as virtualapple and asimov)

Re: New member to forum and also a question!

very interesting information about the copyright releases and glad someone here with knowledge about that sort of thing also joined the discussion!

uberRegenbogen - Can you suggest a good place to check for software that is KNOWN to be released of copy laws? Would REALLLLY appreciate it Smile If not, I do appreciate what you already mentioned!

amauget - THANK YOU! that is exactly what I need.. only i need 3 more ontop of those 3, but this is an excellent start and I will talk to the seller about additional switched.

Thank you guys! Hope everyone is ready for the weekend Smile Its almost 5pm here in California!
