Relaunch Apple-1 Registry – Preview available

Hi everyone,

Sorry, a little bit more text. Mike Willegal already wrote about it. He handed-over the maintenance of the Apple-1 Registry to me. Thanks for that! My name is Achim Baqué. Some people might know me already. I am from Germany.

Mike already forwards updates from owners to me. The information at the Registry is constantly growing. It is unbelievable how much time it takes to take care about 60+ entries. On a first look it maybe looks not much, but so much information and even pictures are added. Believe me I spend a lot of time for it and even just the interactive Apple-1 very time-consuming.

Mike told me that most important for him is the history of every Apple-1. And so it is for me. Mike wrote to me that he will put a link to the new website instead of the old Registry as soon as it is ready.

The new website is ready to go but I want to update everything and add as much information as possible. For this reason I ask everyone at Applefritter.

Here is a link to the preliminary website: Apple-1 Registry. I hope you like it.

For enthusiasts, owner and collectors the website is the source of information about the Apple-1. It was a Mike’s brilliant idea. To make sure the Registry will continue I will handle the Registry after my retirement to someone.

For many Apple-1 almost no information exist. Pictures are rare and mostly of low quality and I will not copy pictures from the internet without permission.
All known owner of Apple-1 already got a personal email some days ago. Some instantly answered and contributed many pictures and information. A few announced to send pictures next time. Hopefully more will help. We will see.

Any help offered is highly appreciated. Discretion is absolutely guaranteed. Any owner can be anonymous or even with counterfeit added to the list. Same for location. I am willing to sign and already have signed NDA’s.

For any picture send to me: you must be the owner of the rights on this picture and by sending it to me you give me permission to publish it on the Apple-1 Registry website. There is no limit for pictures and videos. Resolution can be almost anything and automatically pictures are reduced to 1920x1080.

If you have any information or update for me, please write an email to contact@Apple1Registry.com instead of posting it here. For many or large files send me a link to any cloud storage or ask me for a link.

Most people are interested in history, description, pictures and equipment of every Apple-1.

What everyone can expect: Responsive website, list of all Apple-1 (with filter and sort options), detailed view, world map, interactive image of the Apple-1, market place overview, information about the Apple-1, peripherals, software, documentation, stories, links and comments. And much more is already in the pipeline.

Responsive map: Many times it is unclear if the Apple-1 is currently on display.

Stories about the Apple-1 and Apple Company is something else. What do I mean with stories? Well, anything that has to do with the Apple-1 and the young Apple Company of 76/77. So far I added a very moving story from Ron Wayne. Ron Wayne wrote a letter to me and gave permission to publish it. That is the kind of story many people looking for. Everyone with a good story is welcome to share it.
Any story about a specific Appke-1 will be added in the detailed view of every Apple-1.

And for skeptical people. Yes, the Apple-1 is just one of many computer. But it was the start of the most valuable company. It doesn’t matter if someone like the company or products. It is our history and Apple had a huge impact to the computer industry and our life. As Steve said: no Apple-1 no Apple Company. We have to preserve our history. And not only art, books etc.

Thanks,
Achim

Apple 1 Registry: Exciting! Two new Apple-1 in the first 2 month

Hi everyone,

TWO new Apple-1 recently showed up. As everyone know one by Jimmy Grewal (#67), thanks for all pictures and information. Very kind of you. That's not something you can take for granted. Not every Apple-1 owner share information nor pictures.

And a second one (#68) showed up! The owner gave me some information but so far he want to be anonymous and don’t want to publish pictures etc. I have to and will respect this. Maybe later I can publish more. But for everyone nice to know: one more survivor.

Thanks,
Achim

Re: Relaunch Apple-1 Registry – more updates

I have added new pictures, videos, some information and updated the market website.
The total number of Apple-1 and the number of verified Apple-1 is now visible. Different kind of verification is documented.

More information and pictures will be available soon and more people offered to support my effort to update everything.

Would be great to get at least pictures of all Apple-1.

Has someone ever seen #62 'Smithonian'? Or maybe someone can verify any other Apple-1 that has no picture so far?

Achim

There are some photos online of Jeff Raskin’s board:

Here is some more on the Apple-1 at the Smithsonian Museum:

I also am not sure that Steve Fish’s Apple-1 is listed in the registry:
https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/24495/lot/111/

Perhaps it is under a different name?

Re: Relaunch Apple-1 Registry – Raskin / Smithonian

Bruce Darmer already answered to my first enquiry about Apple-1. I wrote again and asked for permission to use a picture of Jeff Raskins' Apple-1.
Hopefully he will grant me to use one or more pictures for the registry.
Maybe someone else made pictures of this Apple-1?

Smithonian: Thanks Jimmy. I updated the registry and added a link but I can't copy the pictures without permission. I already asked the museum a week ago if I could use some pictures and if they could provide more information. Again, I have to hope for some support.

Maybe someone has seen the back of the Smithonian board? Hand-written number, sticker? Or maybe someone made pictures I could use?
It was donated by Malon D Mimms. Maybe someone know if he was the first owner? According to Wendel Sander it was first used in a high school, maybe.

For every Apple-1 I try to get as much background info and I try to trace back to the first owner.

Re: Relaunch Apple-1 Registry – Steve Fish's Apple-1

I was trying to find a match of Steve Fish's in the registry. At least 1-2 people here got more information and I hope for some support. It is on my list to be added to the registry.

So many entries in the list got no picture and no information about the source and I don't want to add and add Apple-1 and to create duplicate entries.

There are a few more I have pictures and information but it is not clear if it is already in the list. As always, I need to support to add it proper to the registry.

Thanks Jimmy,
Achim

Re: Relaunch Apple-1 Registry – Raskin / Smithonian

It was donated by Malon D Mimms. Maybe someone know if he was the first owner?

I believe Malon is Lonnie Mimms of the Computer Museum of America, who owns several Apple-1s including two of the LCF group boards. I do not believe he was the original owner of any of his Apple-1s.

I’m sure some of the people on this forum are in touch with Lonnie and can get your more info.

Re: Relaunch Apple-1 Registry – Raskin / Smithonian

Malon D Mimms is not Lonnie. Maybe his father?

But, I already wrote to Lonnie and hope to get pictures of his Apple-1's including information. He own's 2 Apple-1 from David Larsen.

Re: Relaunch Apple-1 Registry – Preview available

Good news.

The list of not verified Apple-1 is getting smaller. So far 55 of 68 seems to be verified.

I already wrote more than 30 email last week to known Apple-1 owner and hope to get pictures and information. And even more mails to people involved in the Apple-1 story.

Re: Relaunch Apple-1 Registry – Preview available

The smithsonain has two Apple-1 boards. One currently on display was donated by Lonnie and I think came from the LCM collection (not 100% sure since Lonnie had another Apple-1 before he acquired that collection) and the other is in storage. It is the unit with the nice wood case with Apple scrolled into it and the TI silent 733 keyboard.

Re: Relaunch Apple-1 Registry – Preview available

Thanks for the info, Corey. Hopefully Lonnie will provide some info and pictures - I already asked him. And I need to know which one in the registry is the second Smithonian Apple.

I will constantly try to add information, to verify more Apple-1 and to eliminate wrong information. Just today I added new features, more than 20 new pictures, updates for many Apple-1 and much more. Some museum offered to help.

And hopefully I will have more information to share pretty soon. I will ask Mike again about documents, mails and information he got. His last update was in 2015 and he told me last year about many new information.

Re: Relaunch Apple-1 Registry - Update for the Apple-1 Registry

A new mosaic view is available. Click in the menu on ‘Registry’.

Only Apple-1 computer with picture(s) will be listed in this responsive view with slider.
It is nice to get an overview. It is my hope and wish to present a front view of all Apple-1. But it is a long way.

If your browser is not showing the new menu it might be cached. Just reload the page.

And the comment system should work – even for guests. It is available for every Apple-1 and the interactive Apple-1 image.

And finally, more people have announced to support the Registry with information and pictures. Some owner of Apple-1 that have no picture in registry so far offered to send some in the near future.

Achim,

Have you found any info on the NTI board that was auctioned on eBay in 2016?

Re: Relaunch Apple-1 Registry – more unlisted boards...

Jimmy,

Yes, I've got some info and already asked the former owner for permission to use the pictures and hope he will grant it.
I am not sure if this board is already listed. That's why I didn't add it to the list so far. I hope for more info, before I add more and more. In theory there are more boards to add.

Bye,
Achim

Re: Relaunch Apple-1 Registry – another day another update

Thanks to growing support another updates for over 6 listed Apple-1 is online. And the Living Computers: Museum + Labs gave me information and permission to publish pictures of 2 Apple-1. Thanks for this! In return I added a link to the lovely museum. Two Apple-1 are on display in Seattle.

New entry #70: According to a blog entry of Mike from Aug 21 2015 and information from the Living Computers: Museum + Labs it is not listed so far. So here we go. I wait for a picture of the mainboard to make sure it is not listed twice.

Re: Relaunch Apple-1 Registry – Preview available

More information about #70 added. This one is the Apple-1 that was in Steve Jobs’ office until 1985. And the metal case is a prototype!

Exciting and interesting story the museum generously gave to me. Now available at the registry. This Apple-1 is really something very special.

Progress at the Apple-1 Registry is way more than I was expecting. ONLY for 10 Apple-1 in the list I found no picture and for one of this 10 owner will send me a picture. Awesome.

Until next Monday the new Mike Willegal's Registry will be online for everyone.

If someone got information about the Apple-1 in Japan, please let me know. Even confidential info is helpful to find anything that is listed twice.

Great work...is the "Dustin 2" Apple-1 (pre NTI) board that David Larsen is planning to auction later this year listed on the registry?

Re: Relaunch Apple-1 Registry – Preview available

Hi Jimmy,

Glad you like it.

The Dustin belongs to David. That is public knowledge. He already sold 3 Apple-1.
I would like to answer your question about the auction but I think it is really up to him.

In general: Some information from owners and auction houses I cannot publish, because this information was given confidentially. And much of this information is important to add and preserve confidentially to the history of the Apple-1. If I were a chatterbox, no one would give me more info.

Go ahead and ask David. He is a very kind person and I am sure he will send you an answer.

btw: I offered any owner and auction house to announce any upcoming auction at the Apple-1 Registry. And hopefully some will do so. Many times at auction people knowing Apple-1 missing some information.

Thanks,
Achim

Sorry Jimmy,

I should have read your question more carefully.

Yes, it is listed. Both Dustin are listed. #23 and #45. I will change the name and add some info later. Hopefully tomorrow.

Thanks,
Achim
