Trouble sending data with ADTPro

I am using ADTPro with an Apple 2e and connecting to a MacBook that is running Windows inside VirtualBox.

I am able to bootstrap just fine. Additionally, when I "Send" the RAM disk, it goes nice and fast and copies everything.

However, when I try to send a disk, it will periodically stop and show a bad block ("X") and then proceed very slowly. The bad block does not always appear in the same place on subsequent attempts.

I have tried the same procedure over audio cables (using the Mac OS version) and the very same disks copied without issue.

I would do over audio for all disks if it were not so slow. I am trying to use the serial connection to save time.

Does anybody have any similar experience with trying to send data using a serial cable? Is there a solution?

Thanks!

Do you not have RS-232 Serial Drivers for your Mac OS??? When I have experienced these sorts of issues, it is with the USB to Serial Drivers under Windows.. The non USB. RS-232 Serial Ports don't see to have the same issues...

Aha, I suspected that it might be a Windows issue. The USB/Serial adapter that I am using is supposedly "Mac Compatible", but I could not find a driver.

I was able to track down that it is compatible with "winchiphead" and that is how I found the driver for Windows.

The adapter that I am using has Product ID 0x7523 and Vendor ID 0x1a86.

I actually opened the case and it is labeled "PL2303" but I have tried several PL2303 drivers for Windows and Mac and they did not work. The only driver that has worked was the "winchiphead" driver for Windows.

If you (or anybody on this board) knows of a compatible driver, that would be awesome!

Otherwise, I might just need to get a new USB to serial adapter.

Thanks for the response!

Interesting... I don't recognize that VID/PID

I am very failure with the Prolific PL-2303, where I work, we have sold Hundreds of them over the last decade.. The PL-2303 is listed in the Device Manager as "USB\VID_067B&PID_2303" Unfortunately they were ALL HXA version which are not supported under Windows 8..

I am searching for that VID/PID, but no luck so far....

The VID_1A86 PID_7523 seems to be the USB-SERIAL CH340.

One Positive Note, it seems to support Windows 8, CH340 Driver. But there seem to be no Mac OS X Drivers..

There might be a 3rd Party Linux Driver, which means there might be a BSD Driver, which means there might be a MAC OS X driver...

Prolific PL2303 serial to usb adapters are terrible.

I could not find a driver for that thing that works under OSX so I went ahead and I got...

The Tripp-Lite USB Serial Adapter Model number USA-19HS.

Link: http://www.tripplite.com/sku/USA19HS/

Works perfectly under OSX.

I am fairly certain that if you tried this adapter, that it would work under OSX. No need for Virtualbox or running it under Windows.
