Trying to solve II keyboard mystery

As I wrote previously, I discovered clear evidence that the keyboard in my Rev 04 ought to have a raised square power light rather than the earlier power key. I believe the raised square piece is the same piece used in the flush mounted II+ configuration, just mounted a bit higher? I was wondering if anyone had a picture of a raised square keyboard showing what the power cap is mounted on.

The theory I've been operating on lately is that my keyboard itself is correct, and just the power light was swapped. The keyboard has the right date codes and part numbers.. same as what other IIs in my serial number range have, even though the power light is different. But the switch stand the power light rests on leaves the square piece too high. And the switch looks original. So now I'm wondering if it's possible some later IIs came out with the old power key style.

Thoughts?

Re: Trying to solve II keyboard mystery

I had a II+ that the power key was on an actual keyswitch that was like a capslock key. Each push would raise or lower it into place. (S/N A2S2 4068)

Don't think I currently have any with the raised square power light but I'll check.

Much appreciated. I'm curious to see what kind of mount is under the second generation raised square.. just to see if my keyboard could be adapted to it.. or if possibly this is just how it was originally.

I took a couple close up shots of my raised light Apple II. Hopefully this helps.

(And yeah, yuck, that machine needs cleaning. It just finally got repaired and hasn't had the treatment.)

Re: Trying to solve II keyboard mystery

Thanks so much for the pictures. I'm not sure what to think now. My keyboard has the full switch stand and it appears to be original (no evidence of resoldering). I'd say it was an older keyboard that was swapped into my case later, but it has a date stamp that's in line with other examples of late 30000 sn cases. So I don't know what to make of this. Don't want to change it if it is an unusual original..
