Some time ago I started to try out VisiTerm but thought there must be something wrong with the copies you get from the internet - VisiTerm didn't recognized my SSC and it was not possible to change the "Comm Slot" from "Local" to f.e. Slot 2.

After buying an original Version of VisiTerm and trying different ways to manage the program I now have the solution: a fine working VisiTerm!

The big deal with VisiTerm is that it offers a 80 Col mode without the need of a 80 Col card! Moreover it is a real vintage software - written at the end of the 70's.

1. VisiTerm only accepts the following communication cards:

a) The Apple II Communication Interface Card (I use a Rev 1 from 1978)
b) The Carlifornia Computer Systems (CCS) Apple II Asynchronous Serial Interface Card
c) The D.C. Hayes and Associates Micromodem II package

2. VisiTerm will recognize the card while booting up and then it is possible to change the "Comm Slot"

3. The Apple II Communication Board (Card) only works with 110 or 300 Baud - that's fine VisiTerm normally does also ...

4. The Apple II Communication Board needs another cable than the SSC - I had to add a null modem cable in addition to the cable of my 300 Baud Anderson/Jacobson modem (acoustic coupler)to get it to work

5. The VisiTerm version from asimov is working fine!

I tried out a BBS that supports 300 Baud - very good result. Also dialed up my Apple IIe running ProTerm from my Apple II+ running VisiTerm - very good!

Hope this helps all who are intersted in VisiTerm.

Re: VisiTerm

Woot! You know it's genuine vintage when 300 baud is "high speed"...but for something written in 1982 I'd expect a little more variety of serial card support.

I love reading the Telecom primers the manual includes. Other interesting ones can be found in the ProTerm manual and D.C. Hayes MicroModem II manual. I would assume Ascii Express also has something worth reading.

Re: VisiTerm

Yes, I would also be happy about more matching card's ... but the Super Serial Card was released in 1981 - the Apple II Communication Board in 1978 and the Hayes Micromodem II in 1979. Therefore that VisiTerm was released in 1981 it could be written in 79/80 ... so the supported card's can't include the SSC ...

It's great to read the manual - very detailed explanation and a lot of possible changes can be made to VisiTerm.

Re: VisiTerm

I know of:

Southeastern Software's Data-Capture 4.0, it's (c)1980.
Terminal Program by Ed Magnin (c)1980

The Hayes MicroModem II has a built-in terminal, in firmware rom, (c)1979..
