Apple / Bandai / Katz Media Pippin SCSI

hi,
i own a katz media pippin (1.3 rom) which has a built-in scsi connector. i also have the development kit cds (and some other utilities and games). so far i didn´t manage to create my own cds (only copied existing disks successful). now i´ve added a hdd to the scsi port but it doesnt show on the desktop ... is there anybody who can help me with this?

Dongle?

Apologies if this is obvious (or if I don't know what the frak I'm talking about...) - but isn't some sort of a special hardware dongle required for full/proper SCSI use on these things?

you need a dongle if you want

you need a dongle if you want to boot the standard pippin from a hdd or cdrom. the km pippin wich i own is a development system - but all i want to do is boot a cd with the pippin os and then access the connected scsi drive. i´ve connected an external drive but it doesn´t show up Sad

Have SCSIprobe on any of tho

Have SCSIprobe on any of those CDs? Any other diagnostic utilities? My approach would be to make an image of one of the working CDs, then attempt to add those some tools to the image, using a Mac.

that didn´t work for me in t

that didn´t work for me in the past Sad ... i managed to create an iso but if i add something the "pippin verification" gets lost (there is a special hidden authentification file on each cd).
perhaps i have to add that this is my only apple device (although i wish i´d have an apple instead of a winpc!) - but i´m a videogame collector in the first place. so maybe i´m just to stupid to access the hdd ... do i have to mount it or smth. like that (pippin os is a derived mac os 7.x)? should the hdd show up in the finder or the desktop?
thank you!

Is the disk formatted?

An obvious question, but is the HDD formatted as a Mac disk? If not it won't show up on the desktop. And without a Mac, you'll have a few problems formatting the hard disk and transferring tools onto the Pippin may be awkward. If you're in the UK or EU, I can sort you out with a CD that will boot a development Pippin into System 7.5 and provide you with some useful utilities.

Note that as you are using ROM 1.3, authenticated CDs are not required. Perhaps if you delete the authentication file, your development Pippin will stop trying to checksum the CD contents. On the other hand, you may be breaking the CD image in some other way if you are not using a Mac to modify it. I've had no problems at all creating custom CDs that work with Bandai manufactured logic boards, Katz manufactured logic boards and various ROM/dongle configurations.

thank you - i think this coul

thank you - i think this could help ... i thought the drive would show up even if it is not formatted. as i´ve mentioned i don´t own a mac so i´ll have to ask a friend to help out Smile ... till now i used macfinder to read the discs (and magiciso to modify the isos). as i´m from germany i´d be happy to get a system 7.5 cd!
