I might be getting a car.

Its a 1987 VW Cabriolet. I'm pretty excited. If I do get it, its going to be a great deal. I have the money, now its just up to the parents. They might not want their son with a suspended license to get his own car Wink

VW's are fun cars, but they take some patience. if you need help with tuning and maintanence just post somthing and ill help you with what ever i can.

i like VWs i might be getting a '74 yellow super beatle

i love vw's, i just cant afford to own one.

Point out to your parents that, since your license is suspended, you'll be saving a bundle on gasoline. Blum 3

I had two VW's in college, both Beetles. They were tough little cars that ran well, but had no heaters to speak of. (Especially the one with the big hole in the floor.)

having a car and a suspended license is an invitation to trouble. Are you disciplined enough to avoid actually driving the car until your license is restored? I ask only because having a suspended license shows the driver . . . well, let's just say perhaps not having the best judgement.

That said, an '87 Cabby is a gen 1 Golf (aka Rabbit), parts are plentiful and cheap, car is easy to work on and there's tons of infos to help with maintainance and mods. I've still got a gen 1 GTI (off the road right now though), car is bog simple and a blast to drive. Heh heh, the transplanted 16V 'rocco motor helps. Acute

No, it won't be a problem. I should be getting my lisence back any day now, whenever the DMV mails it.

Unfortunately, upon contacting the seller, I was informed that along with needing a new alternator, the car will not pass Smog without some work, and is overdue on registration, that being another $160 I would have to pay. I simply can't afford that right now.

I am looking for a job, though. When I *do* get one, a car is first on my list.

I should probably color my hair back to brown, first. (Its several shades of blue right now.)

I dunno about your states rules, but the current owner should be responsible for the late registration fees. If the car is sold, I'm pretty sure they can't come after you for the previous owners faults. But, I have no idea what state you are in, and what the local laws are.

Legally, I'm not required to pay the registration. But, they are wanting me to pay it in order to get the car. Its part of the deal, really. I'm pretty disappointed- it really looked like this deal was going to go through.

I'm not giving up hope, though- I'm working with the seller, we might be able to strike some sort of deal involving computers and yard work.

I can see them building those costs into the price of the car, but most people wouldn't have even mentioned that they were gong to do that.

I think they were trying to go for the cheapness factor- by itself, the car is $200.

Getting it smogged, and registered, is going to be another $200.

If only it was a 1986 instead of 1987- I could definitely afford it.
