New forums

A new support community, Kiwi, has been created as a subsite of Applefritter. The iPod forum is being moved to this site. Kiwi should be used for consumer-level technical support questions, in lieu of the current forums.

Bug reports may be posted to this thread.

separate 'recent posts' . . .

make it much less likely I'll visit Kiwi, and thus less likely I'll notice topics with which I can help.

I'm not sure diluting AF's core competency is a positive step, but I guess we'll see how it goes.

That people see tech support

That people see tech support as Applefritter's "core competency" is the problem. These forums are for hacking around. Kiwi is for tech support.

I think the ideal solution would be to have separate 'recent posts' trackers /and/ a combined one, that way people can look at both together, both separately, or just the one they're interested in.

Great idea, Kiwi looks pretty

Great idea, Kiwi looks pretty good too. Hopefully it will become a large helpful community. Curious, whered you come up with the kiwi name?

Anyway, it's looking nice, nice and monochromatic. Maybe a little too far-- I don't think the B&W System 6 memories don't really connect with the iPOD 40GB iTUNES WONT TURN ON kind of people.

We were playing off the 'fruit' theme, similar to the Pineapple Apple II clone and OrangePC. Kiwi seemed to have a decent ring to it.

Moving content?

Is there any way for us mods to move posts into the Kiwi? I know a lot of the Software hacks would be better placed there...

Mods should have access to th

Mods should have access to the kiwiTransfer module now. It's under the 'administer' menu. You need to type in the node ID number and choose which forum are you're transferring to. Let me know if you can't access it.

Edit:

Two things -

It uses a form to post the data, so please don't hit refresh, or you'll create annoying dupe threads in kiwi, I need to add in checking so it doesn't do that.

Second, if you have a lot of nodes to get done, just put the nodes into a comma delimited list ("342,4676,3455,etc") and it'll do all of them at once.

Cool, does this also delete the threads from here?

It removes the comments, but

It removes the comments, but leaves a link to the thread in kiwi, in case you've got it bookmarked and are trying to find it again. You can see an example here.

The theads are removed from the forum lists, so if you look under "Software Hacks" after moving one, you won't find it.

I'm trying to go with it being as minimalistic as possible, so that there's a clear transition when you hit AF proper.

That makes sense.

Oh, if only CSS made rounded rectangles easy...

Oh, it does. niftyCorners uses JavaScript and CSS to make roundrects a snap.

That's actually pretty intere

That's actually pretty interesting, but I'd like a roundrect function built into the CSS standard... but that's a matter for the W3C, and they're loath to even put ways to vertically align content into the CSS standard.

I have that same image on my website ;).

Yeah, I agree, it would be nice to have it in CSS. Vertical alignment is a problem because the DOM doesn't have a well defined "bottom" as such... so the CSS can't really tell how far is halfway between the top of the page and the "bottom"

Anyway.... let's start a new topic if you want to discuss CSS further Smile
