mirrored display on g3 ibook

i have a g3 ibook 600mhz dual usb. mirrored display. is there, if any, a way to bypass the mirroring and use extended display. just let me know if its doable or if there is just too much work involved or if this is just right out and cant be done.

IF YOU HAVE A RAGE BASED IBOOK, DO NOT USE THIS. I am unsure what machines the rage is in, but it can kill the ibook. read thru the history for all the posts that will tell you everything that you need to know

coius, thanks

went to that exact ite just a few minutes ago, and am going through all the whatnots to see if i can use it.

and i can. on that site is a list of what shows the difference betwenn the rage mobility and the radeon mobility. my ibook has the radeon mobility. sweet. now i am thinking long and hard about whether or not to actually use this patch.

has anyone used this patch?

I've used it several times. It seemed like it /might/ have made the infamous iBook logic board failures happen a little more rapidly (I had seven of them before I convinced them to give me a new g4), but my evidence of that is circumstantial at best.

I've used in on my iBook G4 1

I've used in on my iBook G4 1.06. I don't own the iBook anymore, because I parted it off after the logic board fried on me. Quite literally fried, there were scorch marks. I can't attribute it directly to screen spanning on it because I abused that iBook a lot, but I wouldn't rule it out it being a contributing cause.

When my iBook fried, one of my reasons for picking up a Powerbook in it's place was to have the screen spanning officially supported.

well, i dont think the ibook will get used to such xtremes

i hear all the comments about the board friing and such, but i think these are from poeple really putting their ibooks to good use. this ibook of mine is one of two. the other is an 800mhz g3. the most these books will do is just display a few graphics throughout the day from an epson lcd projector. the ibooks are for the salesladies who will be showing previews of the customers portraits. before they used opaque projectors and printed 4"x5" proofs. but after twenty years of that, it became a hassle and i came along to change everything to a digital studio.

the ladies are going to use a portrait-sales specific software, "proselect", to show the "proofs". and that program will be the only thing running at all. a pb5300 could do this job, but proselect needs panther and the book is just so darn cute. plus they were only $200 each.

i feel confident that these two ibooks will function nicely witht the patch.

ps. i just realized that you guys might think i can get away with mirrored for this program, but with mirror all the menus and icons show, when in extended the proselesct can take the second monitor and show only what is in the viewing window of the program. showing only images and none of the programs own menus and icons. its really neat.

any portrait photographers out there: timeexposure.com

i'd recomend this program.

Why not a slide show program?

Jview will present a slide show in full-screen format (no menubar, no background icons). Arrow keys advance to the < previous or next > slides. Mirroring will work just fine, and the ladies will see the same slides on their iBooks as are showing on the projector.

Jview works in every version of OS X I've tried (Jaguar, Panther, Tiger), or an older version, JPEGview, will work in Mac OS 7/8/9. Both are free programs and can be found easily on the web with a Google search.

because

proselect can be calibrated to how large the projected area is and then set standard and custom sizez accordingly. say i have the projector 18 feet from the wall and the projected display is 54"x74". there is a preference in proselect that allows you to measure a calibrating line and then the program calibrate the crop-to size according to the pixels. so that i can quick crop the image projected to a 20"x24" and if you walk up to the wal and actually measure the image it will be precisely 20"x24". i can quick crop from a 4x5 all the way up to a 40x50 with just a click, and it will show the different sizes in between also.

plus this can quickly convert the colour images to black and white and go back to colour and also show the images in sepia. the really cool thing is that it can work with photoshop cs and use the "action" (.atn) sets that i have created to give even more customizing. so i can show warmtone, watercolour filters, textured filters and so on. we are doing so much more than just the slideshow. but there will be no stressful processes while the patch is used.

ps, proselect is mainly a point ofg sale tool than just a presentation tool.
