Hi,
I purchased a PowerPC 5500 off of eBay and it finally arrived today. The 5500 screen, like that on my Color Classic has about a 1/4 inch black border around the screen. Basically, the screen image needs to be adjusted so the actual view image will fill the entire screen. I was sent instructions on how to do this on my CC and that is now perfect. I'm hoping someone here might be able to send me or point me to a site that will have the necessary info for me to adjust the screen on my 5500. I assume its the same type of fix which basically requires adjusting the pots. I have the unit aprat and can see the pots, but I do not know which pot adjusts the horizontal and vertical size of the view image. Any help is appreacited.

Thanks for the link to the site with the service manual. I did some reading and it appears that to extend the vertical and horizontal image on the tube is a big project. Its not a simple adjustment of pots as it was on the Color Classic. Does anyone know if there are repair centers that can perform this adjustment for me? I don't want to mess around with the tube and cabling within the unit. I live in lower NY and I'd rather take it to a technician or shop that knows how to adjust these monitors, rahter than attempt it myself.

Why is it important to you to have the image stretch to the corners of the viewable area? Pretty much every Mac with a CRT shipped with its screen image slightly smaller than the viewable area. I wouldn't waste the time and money trying to coax another quarter-inch or so out of the display.
if it is anything like my 5215CD (i confess, i did not look at your service manual) and it says you have to use a "Monitor Adjustment Cable" and some special software.... It IS NOT difficult. after a ton of research and some help from fellow AF members in germany? (i think... manfred, i believe was members name) i made a cable and had complete success!!!
(as this cable is in no way available, and the mac specialist store around me couldnt even figure out what i was talking about, even when i brought them a copy of the page from my service manual)

actually, i have since looked at your manual, and those adjustments seem pretty straight forward with no real special tools or cables needed really. but, yes... it can be dangerous, and if you're not fully confident in your ability, it really isnt an area to be poking around blindly in. I say give it a go though, that is if you feel comfortable. otherwise, id see if you know someone who could do it for you. the odds of a repair shop doing it are actually quite low.

1. To answer the first repsonse about how most CRT Macs came with the image a bit smalelr than the view screen... I've always been anal about that and try to get the most out of the possible viewable area on my monitors. Now, that I have 21" monitors for my PC systems, a 15" monitor is quite small, so with the 1/4" boarder around the screen, it makes a small screen even smaller, but to answer the other info that was given, I'm a good tech, but messing with monitors is not my specialty. As mentioned it isn't a big deal, or a large amount of missing area. I'll keep my eyes open for someone local who might know how to adjust it, if not I'll just keep it the way it is, it' snot that bad, I guess.
I'm just glad to finally own a mac... well, two Macs now, and what little use I've gotten so far (I've had the first for only a week), I Love the look and feel of the OS. 
Maybe you guys (Mac fans) are right.... Windoze Bloze!
