Does anybody know the normal operating temperature for a 9600/350?

I overclocked my 350 MHz Mach 5 to 400 MHz and _then_ put the thermistor on the heatsink. I'm reading temperatures around 102 degrees F even when the Mac is mostly idle for long periods. Of course, I didn't think to measure the normal temperature at the stock 350 MHz before I did the overclock.

Given that my 867 MHz G4 consistently runs about 10 degrees F cooler, that's not too bad, I think.

Also, does anybody know of _any_ utilities that can give me a temperature reading in software for the Mach 5? I'm guessing that there are none (as the 604ev probably doesn't have a built-in thermistor).

Peace,
Drew

Nope

Gauge Pro seems to require a G3 or later to get a good temperature reading. It definitely tells me everything else about my CPU (speed, revision, cache size & speed, bus speed, etc.), but it doesn't tell me a temperature.

I think it relies upon an on-CPU thermistor to read the CPU temperature (or a Mac like a PowerBook that has a thermistor somewhere in the case for the same purpose). The 604ev has none.

Peace,
Drew

temps

on my dual QS, measured with external-to-the-chip thermistors run from ~105F idle to ~120F under full load. Isn't that info awfully helpful? ;D

Thanks!

Thanks, Dan. That information is directly applicable to my situation! Wink

I've got another thermistor in the fins of my 867 G4's heatsink, and when measured after a round of Q3, the thermistor reads up to 113F. When idle, it gets down to 85F or so, but it averages around 95F - 105F.

But all that really says is that my 604ev's temperature isn't _extreme_ when considering more modern processors...

What I really need are temperatures for other 604-class Macs. Anybody got that?

Peace,
Drew
