VLC today!

Actually, you can do it from the start menu in windows too! just go to start, run and copy the telnet towel.blinkenlights.nl and voila!

As a funny note to this, just today I was experimenting with using VLC's ascii output mode to output realtime color ascii of the input from my DV cam. It looks crappy, but it works well enough that I'll be using it with an lcd projector for my band's next show. You can take any video source and change it to color ascii using vlc and it looks watchable, actually even more watchable than the deep throat ascii thingie that was floated around a few years ago by those people doing that thing.

Download a telnet client. I mean you could watch this on a Mac Plus, or even a ][.

The difference is that this w

The difference is that this was hand "drawn" in text instead of being converted by a program. THis is very simple and stylized compared to any direct video conversion I've seen. There's also a clip fo the Matrix in ASCII around somewhere.

help with VLC ascii output

I'm trying to figure out how to get ascii output with VLC. I'm on a mac, VLC version 0.8.4. According to the website, ascii output works in the Mac version.

I can't find any options for it anywhere in any menus. I read documentation that tells the options for video output from the command line, which says use the argument "-vout caca" When I did that I got

"no suitable access module for `caca'

I don't seem to be on the right track.
