usb 2.0 to imac233

hello,

does the usb to ide cable like this one http://www.usbgeek.com/prod_detail.php?prod_id=0044
will work in "reverse mode" for adding a usb 2.0 to a 233mhz bondi blue imac?
adding it to the ide chain (I probably need a ide male flying connector i think.)

does anyone has try this before?

thanks and ciao
claudio

p.s. any other idea to speed up the imac I/O ??

No, you can't.

No, you can't do that. That is a USB device that is an IDE controller, not an IDE device, so there's no way it will work in reverse.
However, Sonnet makes an upgrade card with a 600 MHz G3 and FireWire

USB 2 is quite CPU-intensive, so even if it could be added to those iMacs, it wouldn't be very useful. FireWire isn't CPU-intensive, thats why its always faster than USB.

300$$$!!!!!

thank you for the reply,

I knew the sonnet solution but I think it's extremely expensive considering the prices of the imac right now.

maybe sonnet should drop the price on these old things if they want to sell them.....

bye

Sonnet

I'm sure they'd rather just discontinue production of the product when demand sinks low and just sell off the remainder at the same price, or wholesale the remainder out to another retailer. I'd suspect they're doing that, or contemplating that, already. Upgrading a 233mhz iMac--why would anyone bother? They'd rather you be forced to dumping the iMac and buying an old second hand G4 and have to buy one of their Encore G4 processors.
