A Re-introduction of sorts...

Hey there! I'd like to do a re-introduction of sorts. Some of you may already know me, because I've asked for help on here, and some of you I've acquired hardware from on here. I don't know how many of you visit Low End Mac - www.lowendmac.com. I write the Welcome To Macintosh column for them. Smile

Be sure to check it out from time to time. Copy and paste this URL into your browser if you'd like to see the articles I've already done:

http://www.lowendmac.com/thomas

I hope you all enjoy my articles. Smile

Take care and May God Bless,
Tommy

please shut up!!

man, 3 toics about the exact same thing. tone it down man.

and that writer's chair your sitting in hould have been mine. for the last 2 years, I was talking to Dan about writing full time for LEM, but he never wrote back, and then boom, there's a new colum with your name on it. just how much ass did you have to kiss to get there? your articles have little substance, just some reader mail, which should go to the LEM mail bag, and not in a full time article. but I guess that frees you up so you dont have to write as much of your medeocre works.

and no I am not being harsh. TWICE I have had stuff pulled out from under mein the mac world (and hundreds more times elsewhere). first, I submit an article here, and 6 months later I see the exact thing I submitted with SOMEBODY ELSEs name on it, and I dont even get mentioned by the author, even though I was the first person to write a detailed walkthough. (yes, I am still pissed about it), and now, after 2 FULL YEARS of politly asking (and not getting a reply) to be an author, I see you walkmin and get the job.

I know, you dont get paid to do it, but still, I really want to write for LEM, and now I get beaten by somebody I have never heard of.

I feel like killing myself...

Re: please shut up.

Wow. Jealousy is always funny to watch.
Dude, chances are whoever got the position you wanted was either more interesting, more charismatic, or a more talented writer.

Or all of the above.

Or maybe they didn't stalk someone for two years. If someone isn't responding for 2 years, that's not "talking" that's obsessing. I know I sure as hell wouldn't hire a whiner or someone who feels the world owes them something. As an employer, I'd go out of my way to avoid people who put out the "I've been screwed by the world" vibe.

Maybe when you grow up and realize that nobody owes you anything and nobody is out to get you, you just have to pay your dues...Then you'll get the things you think you deserve.

Truly functioning people never feel that they've been screwed when they don't get what they want, they either figure out a different way to get it or get different goals after accepting their loss.

And as a side note, I'd never hire someone who has so little grasp on spelling or grammar to be a writer. I'm no grammar maven, but...given that you're bitching about not getting a writing position I have to point out the many mistakes in your form and style just on this forum alone. Fix the style, learn to write and then try again. People judge your style on ALL the things you write. Chances are, the editor guessed that you couldn't write well enough to be published without serious editing and correction, which makes his/her job much harder. It's a lot easier to hire someone with talent than to fix the work of a hack.

Writing

Back in the early part of 2006, I had everything set up to do some writing for lowendmac.com. Unfortunately, between family life, my job, and other things, I was unable to do it.

As long as you are knowledgeable and have excellent grammar, you should have no trouble finding writing work. Having done some writing work in the past (www.systemtoolbox.com (mac section - some articles between 2001 and 2003) , as well as a my first mac blurb on lowendmac.com (from 98-99), I've found that having nothing short of perfect grammar is key.

It's not what you have to say, but rather how you appear. I'm going to have to quote Eddie Izzard's bit about how John F. Kennedy declared himself to be a donut in a speech in Germany. Although his message didn't make much sense, the fact that he was firm and looked great saying it made it work.

As for being bitter or upset about someone else getting something you wanted - get over it. I hate to say it, but really - if you were all that and a bag of potato chips, you would have it and not the other guy. This is something I've been dealing with lately, and it's just pathetic - especially when the people involved are in their 20's.

I just got a new job where I make a substantially higher wage, have a better career path, and a good footing. Factor in the fact that the employer is one that everyone and their brother try to get into, and not many are able to get in. Unfortunately, most of my former coworkers who were friends became bitter, nasty, and give me crap since I got the job.

If you are pissed about someone getting something that you feel that you deserve more than them - keep it to yourself. Life is chock full of disappointments. In fact, that's the only thing guarranteed in this life. Iamdigitalman - if Dan has read this thread already, and chances are good that he may have, you have just severly limited your chances of writing for him.

thank you!

You know, I thought I might have been a little too rough, but I think that the only thing that could possibly help someone like iamdigitalman is to see that he's the only one screwing him over and holding himself back.

I really like the line about disappointments being the only guarantee. I understand that that's not NEARLY as depressing or pessimistic as it may sound on first read. It's really very freeing to realize that you're pretty much guaranteed to screw up, so go ahead and do whatever you were thinking of doing. That way if you don't get what you tried for, at least you're not destroyed.

PLUS! If you go for something knowing that worst that could happen is rejection, if you get rejected you know that you were right about at least one thing

It's one of my mantras. From

It's one of my mantras. From my life and career, I've learned that there is only one person that I can count on ... Me. Granted, luck and being at the right place at the right time play a portion, but you need to be ready for that. I strive to be ready for when those breaks in life come. There have been some really lucky breaks, and some rather nasty dry patches.

Those dry patches, while they sucked, were important. They gave me a sense of perspective that I did not have in 2000 when I was 18. Now, I'm 24 and with the ups and downs of my career, I can take the good with the bad all without worry. Having worked a telemarketing job during a particularily nasty dry patch really helped with perspective. I just do my best and hope it's good enough. If not, I'll find a way to pay the bills and feed myself and my family.

Wow.

You know, I'm only a couple of years older than you, but my experience has been much greater than the average late 20 something and I tend to feel way too old for my age. I've only rarely experienced people who are YOUNGER than me and have their stuff together better than me, kudos!
Reading what you write makes me feel good to know that there are people of my generation who get their stuff together before they are forty (other than me and my spouse!).

iamdigitalman, maybe you should respond and defend yourself. I feel kind of bad continuing this discussion without your feedback.

Suicide?

You know, I'd never really paid much attention to you, but I went through and read your posts. I think you're a clever troll. Nobody that has such a poor grasp on language would ever try to become a professional writer. I think this whole thing, combined with the lack of response was a total bait. I fell for it.

Damn.

The suicide thing is what gave it away, your reaction to word03's suicide was real and I don't think someon who's had their life touched by suicide (even a fake) would threaten such for such a small thing unless they were either truly pathetic and attention grabbing, or trolling.

Well done troll, sir. I take off my mask and little belly jewel to your incredibly well done (if bizarre) incitement.

Troll proven?

Well, I don't think that I was wrong about this one! I've not seen this guy online in a while and he never responded to the troll comments. Hmmm...
