Server trouble

The server is not inclined to stay up.

We've been experiencing extremely high load the last couple of evenings, combined with hardware trouble (it looks like the IDE controller is on its last leg).

The replacement server was mailed out today. If the high load continues, we may keep crashing until the new one is up and running, so please be patient (and quit hitting reload!).

Right now it's a 500 MHz K6 with 256 MB RAM.

The new server is a 2.4C/800 P4 with 2 GB RAM.

Whats the OS?

Server OS

The current is a slight older version of RedHat. The new server is running the latest Slackware.

Up for good?

Ok, I think we have everything worked out. I'm going to poke around and watch things for a couple hours before officially welcoming everybody back. Wink

Some people march to a different drummer... I have a 52-piece orchestra playing just for me!

I told you Eudi!

I remember when that server was built in Eudi's living room. I said "the mac boys would never accept AF running on a PC." and Eudi responded "they don't need to know."

Snicker.

There was a reason why I always responded to questions about what the Applefritter server was running on with streams of nonsense involving Elven magic and ancient runes. ;^>

Which pretty accurately describes Linux anyway, really.
