Support adult literacy in San Diego

Hi folks!

Next Saturday (November 25), at the Santee Trolley shopping center Barnes & Noble Bookstore (9938 Mission Gorge Road) , a group I volunteer for will be having a fundraiser. 10%-20% (depending on the total ) of sales made when a voucher is presented will be donated to Friends of READ San Diego, which supports several adult literacy programs, including READ San Diego, and the San Diego Council on Literacy. The voucher has to be presented at the time of purchase, and we are not allowed to hand them out onsite. The idea is that Friends of READ has brought customers to the store for this event and has increased sales. There is the loophole that if you ask for a voucher at the checkout counter, they will oblige, but we are supposed to use the advance voucher handout system.

If you had been planning on buying books for gifts, and Santee isn’t too far out of your way, please consider making your holiday purchase there on that day and use the voucher. The event goes on all day (10am-10pm). There will be free gift wrapping (for purchases made in the store) and at least a couple of authors doing book signings (see the brochure). We’ll accept donations at the wrapping table, but they aren’t necessary. You could also just come to say ‘hi.’ Also, I’ll be doing some of the gift wrapping, so you can come by, buy some books, and I’ll wrap them for you. The more you buy, the more you can make me work for free for you! I’ll be there wrapping from 2pm-4pm, and again from 6pm-10pm.

You can email for a PDF of the voucher to print out, or save the ink and (quickly) email me with your current address, and I’ll mail out a postcard version to you. Thanks for your support.
