Hey all,
I'm having a very strange problem with an InFocus LP335 LCD projector. The projector powers up like usual, and then I get image like I should...but no matter what, the bulb shuts off after about a minute of use. I've already checked to make sure that there's no inactivity timer set (there isn't), and the image disappears no matter what input the projector is set to. I could be in the menus, changing options, and the lamp will shut off. After it shuts off, the projector stays powered on, and won't go back into standby; I have to unplug it to power it off. I'm not sure how many hours are on the lamp, but it looks like someone has already tried resetting the lamp timer (it shows 0 hours). I've also tried removing the lamp, blowing out all the dust, and reseating it -- no dice.
I've worked with a ton of projectors, and none has ever had this behavior. Does anyone have any ideas, short of buying a new lamp (which I won't do, as they cost more than the projector is worth), than I can try?
Can you hear the fan? It should be pretty loud.
If not, I'd bet the problem is heat, and its shutting the light off to prevent the thing from melting.

didn't notice it was you Doc... Chances are you would have noticed if it was the fan.
Well, I took the thing apart, and did some Googling, and found the following:
1. No internal parts are obviously bad. I took the PSU boards out (it's split into low-voltage and high-voltage boards), and the components are non-blowed-up, and the solder joints look OK. Doesn't mean that something isn't wrong with the PSU, though.
2. When the lamp shuts off on its own, something else inside the projector shuts off too -- I think it's the color wheel. When the projector is running, it emits a high-pitched whine (like most LCD projectors do); when the lamp shuts off, that whine goes away. The fans keep running, though, but the projector is NOT going into standby.
3. I found this: http://www.justrepairs.com/lcd_dlp_projector_service_repair_examples.html, and some of the projectors they list came in with the same/similar problems to mine. They say the problem was fixed by replacing PSU components.
So I think it's the PSU. Problem is, I suck at component-level repair. Anyone out there willing to check out the PSU in this thing for me if I send a case of beer or something?
