IBook Logic problems/Flashing Question mark....

Hey everyone, happy new year.

I recently had great success with you tips on applying pressure to fix my logic board problem, but know i have a flashing question mark on start up. Iv read a few posts that have allready be started about this but when i try and re install OS X i get a no entry sign and nothing happens.

With applying the pressure, could this have caused a problem???

Affraid i know little about the intricate details of macs and being a poor student cant afford the repairs...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

reinstall the OS

it can't find the system. I won't go much further into that, as I have posted on this before. Just get your boot CD's out and reinstall. If you have data on it, i suggest doing the "archive and install" as it will get you a temporary OS on it to get your data off. After you get your data off, then blow it away and do a final install...

Hold down the "C" key after t

Hold down the "C" key after the chime to force the machine to boot to the optical drive. Continue to hold the "C" key until you see a grey screen with a grey apple in the middle.

Tiger ships only on a DVD. If your optical drive is a CD-ROM or CD-RW (no DVD capability), you'll need to use an external, FireWire (not USB) DVD-ROM or DVD-RW drive to install Tiger.

C [you were missing something]

Hello:

Hold the C button down as noted by last post.

At this point you should have several options ... including re-setting the administrative/owner password if you happen to forget the last one used (would anyone ever need to recover and reset that password ... done it a couple of times myself!) Just a nice feature to know about as long as we are talking start up disks, etc.
You can also do different variations of the install as noted earlier.

If a few months later you need the same information, but no longer have this thread handy ... there is usually a note on the first CD or DVD indicating you need to hold the C key down to boot from the CD, too. [A body almost has to already know about the note on the disks, and holding down a key to find the note to tell them to hold down the C key (:-)]

PS PS PS: You can try searching the archives at your leasure for many good tips and great information. I have learned a lot already doing that ... and I will continue to do so as time permits.

I have also benefited from many Fritter members posting answers to questions that may come up in cycles for anyone that has been with the list a long time, and I greatly appreciate/appreciated the responses to the posts.

From a different thread OS Install: How to needed

Hello:

Here is a quote from a responce recvd on another thread I initiated with a similar question:

Firmware password?
Submitted by smileyme on January 6, 2007 - 1:34pm.

It sounds to me like the machines have been locked with a firmware password. There is no way to boot the machine with any device unless the password is disabled. Reformatting the drive won't help because the password is in firmware, not the drive. The password can be disabled by changing the amount of physical RAM (i.e) adding or removing a chip, then upon the next startup, flash the PRAM. Failure to flash the PRAM on the first startup will result in no removal of the password.

Check under recent posts heading for a thread asking for assistance installing an OS How to needed.

There may be other things to try, too, that I know nothing about right now.
It will only be a lost cause when you declare it is a lost cause.

Right, took out the Ram (whic

Right, took out the Ram (which i was quite pleased with seeing the only thing iv fitted was my airport card) and zapped the PRAM again ut to no avail....

I think my problem was when i had to apply pressure to the left of the trackpad. I never added a shim as i didn't want to open up my IBook and by pressing i got it working again.

Could anything have occured when i pressed it down eg disslodged wires etc etc, is it worth opening up just to have a look???
