im not sure if this question has been asked before, but if i bought a 12" ibook g3 900mhz (opaque) could i swap the plastics with a 5-800mhz clear ibook so i could do a paint job? or if not, whats the opaque ibooks plastics like to paint?

as for the cases matching, im not sure.
Depending on what you have in mind - the opaque machines paint nicely as well. My wife has painted hers a number of times. Of course, she paints artsy designs on the display housing.
