Success with 3rd party wifi!

After spending about 3 hours working on it, i finally got this Working with none other than a Lucent wifi card. Works great! This may be an easy way to get on the net if you have a cheap wifi card that is other than a card designed for it.

I had an inkling that it *might* work, since it is just a PCI->PCMCIA card, but after installing the drivers, i had a bit of a hard time, because although windows doesn't like to see it as a wifi card (card says it requires the use of the software it includes) I got it working with entering it into the windows Network settings (go to mycomputer->properties->Hardware->right-click on "Belkin 11mbps Wireless PCI Adapter Card" and go to "Properties"->advanced-> enter the info like ad-hoc, the network name, etc.) I got it connected to my iBook (since the wifi router is in the basement, and I am on the second floor, it's hard to connect) but I successfully got it on the net. I had to "repair" the net connection, but it is finally up and working!

It's only 16-bit PCMCIA afaik, but it I am thinking it should support old cards.

The adapter has been sitting in my drawer for about 3 years, thinking that when I bought it, it came with the card. At least I know that you can use other cards.

If anyone has this, and another wifi network card, could anyone let me know if it works?

I just got to thinking about the hackability with the card, and if someone can flash the firmware or whatnot, you might be able to add normal PCMCIA cards with it!
