IIGS and Mac HFS disk

I ran a cross a snippet on the internet that basicly said I could retrieve text files I had saved from my Apple IIc to 5.25 disk, write them to a 3.5 disk on my GS and finally transfer them to my Mac. As I understand it the IIgs will write a HFS disk (3.5) which the Mac can read. Now I tried this but my Color Classic just comes up with the disk intialization pop up...it obviously is not reading the disk as I thought it would based on what I read.

Now I'll be honest I am ignore, but slowly getting a bit smarter about my mac and IIgs...so is it that the Color Classic can not do this or have I missed something when I formatted the 3.5 disk on the IIgs.

Yep..I am confused! Enlightenment needed

IIGS formatting MAC HFS

Greetings,

Which version of GS/OS are you running? If I remember right what you want to do can only be done with System 6.0.1. Do you have the HFS.FST installed in the FST folder in your System folder? If not then that's your trouble. Without the HFS.FST installed the GS can't read or format a disk in HFS format.

Hope that helps,
Dean

I see...

Dean,
I am running GS/OS Ver. 5.0.2 on my GS. I checked the FST folder and there is no HFS.FST file shown. Now I have a clue, but the problem is that I don't have GS/OS 6.01. Did a check on the net and it looks like I can buy a copy from Syndicomm for about 12 bucks for the disks. This should take care of the problem.

Thanks for the information....

Jim
