ibook g3 power problem

Hi, I have a ibook g3 14" 900Mhz, the initial problem that this laptop had was that the trackpad was not responding nor were the usb ports, i opened it up and saw that the connections were fine, so i concluded that the problem must be with the hardware which needed replacing.

When i put the ibook back together again (not very well, i had some screws left over) i tried to turn it on with the battery attached (which was charged) but it would not turn on, i connected the power adapter and it turned on fine, running Mac OSX 10.3, there was evident activity when the power adapter was in, however when i took it out the ibook would turn off immediately, the power button does work as it gave me the shutdown options when the power adapter was in.

And also when the power adapter is in it goes from green to orange, which is strange as the battery stays at 75% charge.

I think that there must be something wrong with the the battery connections.

any help much appreciated.

Or a PMU problem

Try resetting the Power Management Unit, or PMU. With the machine turned OFF, hold down the Apple, Option, Control and Shift keys with your left hand. Hold down the Power button for ten seconds. Let up on everything, wait a few seconds, and restart.

This will force the PMU to re-compute the full charge capacity of the battery, and the current charge on the battery, then turn the charging circuitry on or off as necessary. This could take an entire charging cycle to settle out, so report back after a couple of days and let us know how it's going.

Good luck!

Yes, leave the battery in, so

Yes, leave the battery in, so the PMU can do the computations it needs to do.
