Anyone remember this game?

Hi, I recently had a coversation with my family about the old Apple II we had and there was one game we all played but could never finish (no cheating before the internet, haha)

I actually can remember quite a lot about the game. It was a text and graphics based adventure, maybe in a manor (haunted, mystery, not sure) and one of the first puzzles was solved by typing 'say answer' or 'speak answer'

Then there was a carriage, taking you somewhere, the house? Sorry if this is all out of order I'm trying really hard to remember something I havent played since the early 80s. Then there was a kitchen, with a boarded door, and a growth. I can completely picture that green kitchen too this day. In another room there was a piano and one day I figured there was a way to open the piano and you could find a key, of some sort.

This is pretty much as far as we could ever get. I was young at the time and noone had any ideas, and I mainly played Lode Runner for those who remember.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

THE^CURSE^OF^CROWLEY^MANOR

Hi, I believe the adventure game you played was called "The Curse of Crowley Manor" (1981) written by Jyym Pearson and Norman Sailer. It was game #2 in the Apple Other-Ventures series by Adventure International.

To see a picture of the Apple II game box, click here.

For more on Adventure International, click here.

Apart from these titles of the Other-Ventures series, Jyym Pearson has also co-authored with Robyn Pearson other well-known classic graphic adventure games on Apple II, like The Institute (1981) and Lucifer's Realm (1982) published by Med Systems Software/Screenplay.

Anyway back to The Curse of Crowley Manor, here are some selected screenshots of the game (by yours truly) Wink
All are in color, except for the kitchen which I left in green monochrome. Smile

Like most games by Jyym Pearson, this game was also hard to solve, however the walkthrough is now available on the Internet so you can make your dream come true and finish the game after like 25 years?!

/!\ SPOILER /!\ Link to game cheat, do NOT click here.

Apple II Forever!

btw, I too played Lode Runner on the Apple II most of the time instead of doing my homework (haha... just kiddin').

Thanks

I knew it had the word Manor in the title! The game isn't even listed on GameFAQs; very surprising.

Thanks alot, however, I think my version was quite different. After reading the walkthrough to try and familiarise myself again, some things, such as a crank and picking up the growth, screams childhood reminiscence. But the graphics are different, haha, maybe it wasn't even an Apple II computer, all it had was green, white and chequered. I remember the four possible colours came up whenever you started the computer, or maybe just this game.

Maybe my memory has finally gotten the best of me. Apparently my family threw out the computer a long time ago, so I will probably never get a chance to finish this game. Thank you so much though; "The Curse of Crowley Manor", my mind is at peace.
