So I'm using my PBG3 yesterday and it works fine.
I try using it today and the thing is just dead. Won't power on or anything. I've tried it in different outlets with and without the battery. It's just sitting there like a lump of plastic. Any ideas??
Try resetting the PMU (power management unit). There will either be a reset button (inset on the back panel?) or a key command at startup. If this works, open the machine and just disconnect the PRAM battery from the board.
I've revived three G3 PowerBooks (of different vintages) using this method, just this week.
the little green indicator light in the upper right of the display lid is on.
When i push the reset button in the back and hold it, the light goes off. Nothing happens and the light goes back on as soon as I let go of the button.

I'd say to open up and disconnect the PRAM battery. PPCs (especially PowerBooks) are particularly finicky when the PRAM battery goes low. When the PRAM gets confused (low voltage), it becomes unreadable by the logic board. When the PRAM is reset to factory spec (no voltage), at least the system knows how to turn on.
Remember that PRAM batteries are expected to last 3-5 years. I've occasionally seen them last 7 years. Kanga is going on what, 10 years old now? If you've never replaced it, its number has probably come up.

• the PowerBook 3400/G3 (Kanga) service manual
• a T8 Torx screwdriver (available at Sears individually, or at most hardware stores in some sort of kit)
• possibly a T6 Torx screwdriver (see above)
• small "jeweler's" slotted and Phillips screwdrivers
• a Fender Heavy guitar pick (for prying apart your PowerBook after the screws are removed)
• small needle-nosed pliers
• a MOS (magnet-on-a-stick)
• an egg carton or divided tray to sort screws as you go, so you can put them all back in the right places
• patience and time
