First timer --

Shock! Horror! Pain!
I pulled my old Apple IIe out of the closet, flipped the switch, And a loud chirping sound was buzzing. It wasn't until i unplugged, and plugged back in the keyboard it worked. Now, i had to screw the case back on. I left the screwdriver in the other room, when i picked up the screwdriver, *BLAM!* It fell off my desk! No physical damage, just the "A" key and the spacebar, which was difficult to re-attach. After that, it booted fine, I started DOS 3.3, now this happens: i type an "e", and "ew" show on the screen. same for a and s. How do i fix this?

Something is probably just lo

Something is probably just loose.

Have you checked that all of the chips are firmly in place? The same goes for the keyboard connector and the chip on the keyboard itself.

okay....

At first, the power light wasnt coming on, but that was a result of pushing the ribbon cable firmly into the keyboard. But ill examine all the chips.

Update!!

Nothing was loose, but it still won't function. Why would it display two when i hit only one? Im just thinking out-loud. Il google around a bit, but any more help here would be greatly appreciated.

Have you taken out the keyboa

Have you taken out the keyboard from inside the case? From what I can remember there is another chip on there that works out what key you press and then sends the correct number down the ribbon cable to the board.

If you have any cards installed (80 column card?) make sure that there in properly.

Other than that I can't think of anything else that could cause that sort of problem.

Hope you get this sorted,
Simon27

Yeah i took the keyboard out. The ribbon kind of twists at the board. maybe i should try to straighten it out. Also, the cards installed are an imagewriter card and a DuoDisk card. i noticed on the system board there is a dip chip labeled Keyboard ROM. would that have gone bad?
