easier MacBook screen replacement

My sister's kid dropped her Late 2007 MacBook, cracking the screen. She called me of course.

so it wasn't hard at all

She found a replacement screen for ~$170, which arrived next day, she dropped it off for my attentions.

The shop manual says take the display off the lower body to R-n-R the LCD, but that's a lot of bother. I figured I could do the job by just popping the bezel apart in situ and I was right.

Two issues - the bezel front is somewhat fragile, so one must carefully pop it loose using a thin plastic card or plastic tool. Also, the backlight connection is buried in the hinge cover, once unscrewed and separated I had to pry it out a bit to get the BL cable unplugged and then again to plug in the new one.

Other than those items, it was pretty straightforward, just the usual care on re-assembly to ensure all wires run where they're supposed to go.

With this post, I mostly wanted to just record the event, and mention that it's a doable job for any reasonably competent tech. AND contrary to what the shop manual says, it doesn't require pulling the MacBook all apart to do it either. I will say it's helpful to have the manual on hand though, especially for the bezel reinstall details.

edit-
That's funny, just now saw this French web site has the whole story with pics and everything.
