Microsoft Excel 98 causes system to hang

While working on rebuilding Connie to clear up some old issues and streamline the OS without all the accumulated clutter, I backed up my system and then slicked the main drive. I reinstalled the OS and then dragged and dropped over needed applications from the drive where I backed stuff up.

One of these apps was Office 98. I no longer have the original install stuff.

Upon first open (any of Word, Excel, Powerpoint), the needed files in Preferences get created. Everything seems to work well although I did need to allocate more memory to each app in order to stop a Type 1 error. Excel is the only app not seeming to like me right now.

When I open Excel, all goes okay, until I open one particular file whose size is 260K. I can open any file without error or issue but this one. This file is a storehouse of very powerful, but benign VBA macros and toolbars. It is of great intellectual value to me, and Excel knows this and wishes to antagonize me - I am trying not to take this greivous personal insult so harshly, but I must.

Any ideas on why a file that works good on any other version of Excel anywhere else seems to not like opening on Connie? The only autorun macro attached is on that calls up the current date from the System Date variable.

TIA

VBA seems to be the cause

It has taken several restarts (since the system freezes when I try), but I am sure that the problem has to do with VBA and some of the MS runtime/OLE artifacts not being where needed.

I have the original Extensions folder and the original Preferences folders and have been comparing them to the currently used ones. I think I have everything in place but the freezing still occurrs when I attempt to use anything VBA (like opening the macro editor on a clean file).

Anyone?

Resolved

I found a handful of Microsoft Libraries in my backed up Extensions Folder that were missing from my current Extensions Folder.
