I recently installed a second Disk ][ drive in my Apple IIe. The first drive's ribbon was already clamped into one of the holes leading out of the back of the case, so I just fed the second drive ribbon out of another hole in the back next to the first one. I didn't have another metal clamp to secure the second ribbon so I just refitted the plastic tab that seals the hole with the ribbon coming out the side of it. It's not a great solution but the ribbon is fairly secure.
How sketchy is my installation? Should I back up and undo the metal clamp on the first drive's ribbon and get both ribbons to feed through there or am I fine doing it this way?
Only if you're really sure you're going to keep it that way. I'm constantly pulling things apart and putting them back together, so I just let the ribbons flow out the holes in the back with no clamping whatsoever.
Sorry about that...
2ee,
David is right. If you are comfotable with the way you have your cables set up, then you should be ok. I didn't have any of the original AII Cable Clampswhen I bought my first II Plus, so I strung them through the slots.
I think I'm okay with it. I don't mind that the two cables flow through two different slot openings. I would really rather not mess with the clamp that secures drive 1 because it is original to the system and if it isn't broken, why fix it. The less time I spend in there the better. A second clamp would be nice though to secure the drive 2 cable in case it falls off the table or something. Do they sell clamps anywhere, ebay maybe? Anyone have a disk cable slot clamp for an Apple IIe for sale? --thanks
