Apple Pascal requires autostart/applesoft?

I recently built an Apple II Replica (Mike Willegal's) and for a real vintage feel I decided to use Integer Basic EPROMs.

What I have noticed is Apple Pascal and Wizardy won't boot and complain about not finding system.apple (Pascal) or btstrp.apple (Wizardry).

Both used to boot fine on an Apple II+ board in the same chassis. I did swap floppy drives and that made no difference.

Dos 3.3 and a handful of games boot fine.

Was there a requirement to use Applesoft PROMs?

Thanks,

Mike

I don't think so, but for sure Pascal needs the "language" card... do you have one plugged in?

No problem here

I also have Mikes Rev 0 replica with Integer BASIC ROMS. No problem booting Apple Pascal 1.3. As Dave mentioned, you need the 16K RAM card. You also need the 16 sector PROMS for your disk controller (which you obviously have to run DOS 3.3).

I have the language card as w

I have the language card as well as 16 sector floppy. When I boot DOS 3.3 it loads Applesoft into RAM and I can run both integer and Applesoft programs.

But I haven't tried applesoft since trying pascal, maybe there is a seating issue.

Thanks,

Mike

DRAM issue

I decided to do a quick memory check and discovered I am picking bit 3 in the upper bank. Turns out pin 8 of the DRAM for bit 3 is open, even though the socket appears to be soldered. It may be a cracked etch.

I'll have to pull the motherboard out and run a wire on the back.

Fixed it and now Pascal boots

Fixed it and now Pascal boots. Turns out it must have been a bad plated through hole. The solder wasn't wicking up to the top layer. I was able to solder it from the top which is where the 12V etch is.
