So, it appears that my 7300 can output millions of colors on a good CRT display, but is limited to only greyscale when I hook it up to a modern LCD panel. I'm using the same DB15 to VGA converter cable in either case. Does anyone here know why that is, or, more likely, what I'm doing wrong?

try booting the system then hooking up the lcd. most likely the DDE pin in the cable is missing or not recognized.
