Some easy, some not...

You can add an ADB port to a 150, but it involves Some Work..

External SCSI connectors are available by the bucketload on ebay, and any scsi Apple external CD-ROM drive should work with it, provided you have the Apple CD-ROM extension installed in the system folder. You can use a third-party CD-ROM with a patched copy of Apple's CD-ROM driver.

Ethernet is trickier...a bit. Asanté made a scsi to ethernet box, that also had a scsi connector on it for your CD.

You can't add USB. Sorry.

And you can network it with your PC, providing you have software installed on the PC which supports Appletalk. Even using an emulator like Basilisk will work, and it's free.

Oh, and you can check how much memory you have this way: When the computer finishes booting, look under the Apple menu at the top left and select the top item, which should say 'about this Macintosh' or 'about this computer'. That'll give you total memory and also tell you if virtual memory is turned on.

FYI - your internal hard drive is IDE on the 150.

Hope that all helps...

btw it's got connetix ram doubler on it, what's that do besides the obivous.........?

im runnin Mac OS 7.5.3, can i get an upgrade?

also, can i get more ram..............dunno on this end of the line..

k.
1. where can i find a scuzzi cd
2a. where can i get "basilik" or sim. software?
2b. i wanted to do a direct connect from PC - Mac *do u think XP will support Mac?* or is that what u were talkin bout?

i've got no klue thanx

also, the little plastic clips that support the lcd screen and hold it on the swivel bar thingy, are broke, and the screen is just prop'd up against a piece of plastic, the thingys where the screws go into thru the swivel bar onthe back side of the screen protecter/box/thingy are broke out, so the front side got broke, and it's all put together w/ tape rite now

Just ask when you don't know a term. Its hard to learn if you don't know the jargon.

It means you have 4 MBs of physical RAM, but RAM doubler makes the system think it has 8MBs so it can run a litte more software

You probably want to stay with 7.5.3 on that. Its stable and its one of the last versions that will run on that system. You can get the 7.5.5 updater from apple for free but its probably not worth the trouble.

I think eBay is the answer to both those questions (as well as the best place to get the adapters you'll need). 150s used an odd RAM setup. Max IIRC is 40MBs, but you're probably going to be comfortable with an 8MB or 16MB RAM card.

Thats a flaw in the design, lots of systems do that. Glue, tape, and other forms of modding might help.

If you get lucky. Getting ethernet on that system will be a chore, getting it online will be a massive headache. Plus its so old that it will be a horrible slug at best. Anything beyond email will be impossible to bear.

Simplest way to put it is PC on Mac, easy, Mac on PC hard.

The 150 really isn't a newbie system. Its a fun computer but it has a lot of quarks that make it a real challenge to figure out. Plus its around 10 years old so alot of the stuff you need/want is going to be used and outdated. Don't want to discourage you from learning about macs, but a cheap G3 desktop or tower would be a much better learning system, expecially since Apple had moved to indusrty standard parts by then.

kay, thanx, i'll c what i can

kay, thanx, i'll c what i can do, as for the G3, i'm limited on $$$, but ya kno how it goes, btw, say i did get a g3, i kno they make adapters from DVI (or whatever it is) to VGA, but what if i need to change a PS/2 port, say a keyboard to the mac port, do they make adapters, if they do, then i can just buy a kmv adapter and then i can use both of my computer on 1 set of hardware

oh yeah, also i read that with and adapter, you can use a cf card for somthing, is that for the ram or the harddrive,

also, does the pb150support over 250MB HDD's? Can you use an xternal sxuzzi hdd?

if that's good too, is there a splitter/adapter thingy that i can use to hook up both my xternal hdd, and my scuzzi cd???

my brain hurts...................

btw, forgot to ask, if i'm not able to get a scuzzi cd drive, then, can i direct connect my mac 2 my pc, and use the cd on my pc?

also, where do i get appletalk emulators for pc??

thanx 4 all the help

Yeah, but Beige G3s and even the B&Ws are dirt cheap anymore. If you have a college that uses macs near by they will probably have a computer sale where old systems are dirt cheap.

DVI wasn't introduced until later into the G4 series. The monitor port on most desktop macs is VGA compatible. The port is different but you could make the adapter yourself if you don't want to spend the $4 it takes to get one off ebay. For a PS2 port there are PS2 -> ADB adapters but they cost much more then they're worth If you get a PCI mac you can get a USB card, or if you get a B&W or newer you'll have USB built in. Once you have the right interfaces you should be able to use a KMV without a problem

A CF aparter for a 150 is more of an interface that replaces the internal HD, Here are the details on that. In other systems you can simply get a PCMCIA adapters and slide it into a slot.

CF is mainly for a hard drive but it works well as virtual memory (forget what its called in the windows world - it has HD space acting like RAM).

HD capacity is probably limited in terms of hardware, but in terms of software the limit is 4GB partitions for 7.5.3. If you upgrade to 7.5.5. I think the limit is in terabytes. I wouldn't worry about that tho' you'd be nuts for puting more than a 4GB hard drive in there. A SCSI hard drive can be external, and had the same space limits as an IDE Drive (4GB partitions)

SCSI will daisy chain much like USB, however you top out at 7 devices and need to set a unique ID to each device.

thanx 4 all the help, but, st

thanx 4 all the help, but, still more problems, ikno my hdd is IDE, yeppers ,its not scuzzi, but on thebak ofmy pb150, it has printer port, and a (joystick port) i guess, it's the funny square thingy with alot of pin holes, is that the scuzzi, or do i need to hak 1??

i'm lost yet again

some call me a drummer and a freak, i'd call them rite!

btw, 4got 2 tellu, found scuzzi adapter for ethernet so i kno what they look like now, also, if i do get a g3w/ pci card ports, can i use a card i already have, say a v.90 modem, does it have to be mac compat, or... can i dwnload a patch/driver thingy...??

also, are g3's the AIO computers or are they like the B&W towers?
i'm so lost, i can't find myself

btw, does anybody need a pb150 for parts atleast??
i'll consider offers thanx. I just have no use for it, and it's collecting dust, like everything else wheni'm @ school.
also, when/if i do get a g3 or a B&W, do they come in acrylic or clear cases or would i have to make a plexiglass 1?

thanx again

Yeah thats the SCSI port.

Probably won't work, but the are some cards that are cross platform. Chances are it won't tho'

Quote:

Depends on the model. iMacs are all in one and probably won't help you if you want to muck with the hardware side of things. Beige g3s come in towers, desktop and all in one models. PCI macs after the beige G3 are all towers

Beige G3s are generic cases. The plus side however is that they are one of the few systems where Apple paid attention to known standards. You could pick up a plexiglass case with an ATX PSU and put a Beige G3 in there fairly easily. There's at least one hack here when a G3 was put into a modded PC case.
