Question about controller card in 8500

So lately I've been looking at IDE controller cards so that I could get a larger capacity HD for my 8500 cheaper. One question I have is what exactly is the difference between ATA, SATA, IDE, EIDE. I've been looking at the card from Sonnet which as far as I can tell is my only option.

Hmm...

I don't really know how to explain it all but your choices are, assuming SCSI isn't one of 'em, either ATA or SATA.

Clarification

Alright here's what I'm getting at. Sonnet has a 133 ATA card, which is the one I think I might go with (unless someone has any other ideas). It says that it "Supports all types of DMA drive protocols:
ATA1, ATA2, ATA3, ATA4, ATA5, and ATA6." Jumping over to pricewatch I see that they have some large SATA and EIDE for varying prices. I guess what I'm really asking is whether or not these drives will work with this card?

Hmm...

The Sonnet ATA/133 card will support EIDE drives, otherwise known as ATA. It will not support SATA drives. They require a controller card with SATA support. SATA uses a smaller connector.
