Geez, where TF do you live?!?!?

I want to be sure I never go there!! Damn, no wonder you get depressed, your community sounds like a horrible place in which to live! Perhaps if you move somewhere closer to humanity your life will pick up immeasurably!

To Avoid:

I just checked out your forum profile. Location is USA. I'll have to avoid it, it sounds terrible.

Sorry, couldn't resist. Proud to be Canadian.

The light bit is complete garbage. Sounds like your local police department really needs better funding from other sources if they're trying to pull that on you. Generally, you'd expect them to at least give you a warning or something.

As for bike helmets, where I am you have to have one until you're 18 (legal adult). I honestly don't see a big deal with wearing one (I admit, I only do about half the time), but to get pulled over for it? I've never heard of that happening.

Seriously. Which state, so I can avoid it.

State of Mind

Michigan, makes sense. I've only met a few cops there, but they were all complete overreactive jerks (granted, they were also border cops, which tend to be jumpy all over the states).

We went through Sault Ste. Marie on our way down to New York. They searched the car for 15 minutes at the border. The following is a quote out of Paddy's bit he wrote when we got to HOPE:

Quote:

On the drive here we took the route through Canada on the number 1 (trans canada) it was an univentful drive all and all, until we reached the boarder crossing at Sault Saint Marie, Ont. where we where we watched 5 or 6 cars get waved through at 6am EST and were infact the only ones who were asked to pull over, the kids from canada driving a green geo with a bumper sticker that says "talk nerdy to me". when we pulled over about 6 guards came out with there hands on there holsters, I found this greatly ammusing, being that all we had in the car was a jerry can of gas just in case, a spare tire, also just in case, about 2 changes of clothes each and around 3 cases of pop, a flat and a half of water and munchies. We were asked to get out of the car and step into the border crossing house where we were asked where we were going 6 times by as many different people. Eventually we were told that we could go and when we returned to the car it was as if everything had moved 2 feet to the left in a circular fasion. We drove to the toll booth to cross into mackinaw city, MI which is still part of the boarder crossing where we recieved a map of michigan and two reciepts for when we cross back over to canada

Entire comment found at tapi.freeshell.org

Anyhow, that's my fun story about cops in Michigan. The map is hanging on my wall.

Also, this Heinlein quote just occured to me to pass along. It's a little bit paraphrased:

Quote:

I've found out why people laugh: because life hurts and it's the only thing that'll make it stop.

In other words, laugh. I've gotten into the habit of thinking that my life is an elaborate practical joke by God. It's gonna be a hell of a punchline.

The Cops

I lived in Soo Michigan for a year and the bridge you crossed into mackinac city on isnt a border crossing it is the Mackinac Bridge that connects The Upper And Lower Peninsula's Of Michigan. As for customs, i went back and forth from soo michigan to soo canada every night and got searched everytime. Great bars in soo canada. When you got off the international bridge Onto I-75 you crossed into michigan. Sault Ste. Marie Michigan, you then intern stayed on I-75 Southbound until you hit the Mackinac Bridge In St. Ignace Michigan and crossed the bridge and payed the 2.50 cent toll to go acrossed. The bridge used to be 1.50. I used to drive from Mt. Pleasant Michigan to Sault Ste. Marie Michigan daily for a 45.00 an hour job, 3 hours on the road.

Mackinac

I'm not sure where he got his city names from (I'd just driven all night, and was asleep a few seconds after we got the map). The quote was written by the friend I went with, not me.

We may have great bars in Canada, but you have much better Caffine, and as a geek that's very important to me.

Canada and Caffeine

The problem with caffeine in Canada is that's it's classified as a controlled substance. We've got some pretty good laws about just how much caffine you can put in what. For example, anything that's a soda, must be dark coloured if you want to have caffeing in it. Thus, the issue with mt. dew.

A few months ago, a couple friends and I were out and we decided to go grab some Bawls. We were told at our friendly neighbourhood Sev (7-11) that due to border issues, they weren't getting any shipments of it right now. Thankfully, it's now here again.

When I was in the States, the caffeing was excellent. Red Bull actually does something. Couldn't find any Bawls, but I'd be interested to compare caffeine content.

It was so very tempting to get a box of Jolt gum and bring it home, but we never saw any full boxes. Granted, we didn't really look for it either.

Bawls versus Red Bull

Bawls and Red bull have an almost equal amount of caffiene per bottle, but bawls for some reason gets you seriously buzzing before Red Bull even gets ya hyper. (Trust me, The last time I was at the local computer gaming place, I drank what totaled up to be about 2 grams of caffiene, and 4 grams is a lethal dose.)

God I love caffiene... :Smile

Bawls != Red Bull In Canada

From what I've heard, Red Bull in the states is way better than in Canada. Bawls tends to be pretty much the same.

Thus, I buy Bawls.

Well, IMHO Canadian Bawls was better before they stopped importing it.
My 7-11 has red bull that's imported from some eastern asian country (judging by the label writing). Comes in really small brown bottles and it's really good stuff, though a little bottle of bull costs $3.15 Canadian, and a big bottle of bawls is $2.30.
I don't really care anymore though. I don't drink caffeine outside of the odd coffee every once in a while. Don't ask. (probably won't answer anyway, since I don't exactly post like I used to)

it sounds like the cops there

it sounds like the cops there, like where I live, just really need something to do. Here, it isn't a high crime area, and there's no masssive drug problem. Most of our entire police force, consisting of about 5 cop cars, congregate in the parking lot of the local hardware store while they're on "patrol" or all by the little coffe shop we have if it's open. Everyone gets warnings for everything. Especially skateboarders and bikers (like anywhere else). I got a warning for riding my bike off of a curb. not for being on the sidewalk, but for going off the curb. Also at school, the "officials" never want to bother with parking issues (and just about everything is an issue) so they call the police, they write a ticket, and usually tow your car. I don't know exactly what we have here for ordinances, because it's confusing. There's East Rockhill Township, where my house is located, and Perkasie Borough, which is my mailing address. The borough cops technically have no jurisdiction over the Borough/Township line, because of seperate police forces, which is coincidentally my backyard. I just have an old people problem. My development is filled with old people, that complain about everything. It's rather annoying.
I'm done babbling now.

there is 4 city cop cars here

They have 4 City cop cars here 2 white ones and 2 blue ones, they usually alternate so u never know what they are driving. i seem to though as the city police department is 5 blocks down the street. Our city cops do nothing but drive around looking to pick on people. my house got broke into again about 3 days ago and they just kinda walked thru said sorry bout your luck and left. Understand this too, i had my truck which i am completely restoring parked in my driveway no plates no insurance and it took all 4 city cop cars to come and give me a notice to move the vehicle. the damn police cheif showed up at my door

Time to move outta Nazi Germany

Dude, I've been following this thread and it's time to revolt against the Nazi's running your city or move outside the city limits. If you move make sure you are not too close cuz they will annex you eventually if there's tax money in it.

Actually, you should get a copyuof the city ordinance and use it against them. It's not that hard to do. Usually crap like you describe is done by cowboy politicians in the local offices. If you know the rules you can screw with them really well. But, you have to be careful not to leave yourself open for reprisals. (cover yur azz)

Cowboy politics in small towns usually results in a lot of things done illegally. The problem is nobody fights back and it just gets worse.

Get a copy of the ordinance and file an official complaint on every ordinance violation you can find and stick to them like a bad haircut.

Ordinances are NEVER enforced equally and if you make them actually do their jobs they will back off. Just a bunch of powertripping wimps using their position to pick on you cuz they don't like you.

Fight Back for Freedom..........

FYI: I worked as a Code Enforcment Officer in a large norhtern city for a few years so I know about what I am saying here. I quit and walked away from a pretty cushy secure lifetime job because it was so overrun by B.S. it wasn't funny anymore and I couldn't drink enough to live with it.
